In this link is what appears to be five screen caps from Garrel's new film Un Été brûlant but beware of major spoilers of the film in the text!

Yikes, that looks not-so-good. I think it's mostly that the trailer is so cliché-ridden in a structural sense that it's hard to even see that it's a Garrel film.Ovader wrote:Trailer (no Eng subs) for Un Été brûlant.

Well, friends of mine, who saw this at Venedig, told me that this is how the whole film looks like. They say, that the film doesn't look and feel like a Garrel film at all... Hmm....Oedipax wrote:Yikes, that looks not-so-good. The negative impression by the above comments is shared by many and Garrel defends Godard-inspired That Summer.

La Cicatrice Interieure/Liberte La Nuit double is due to be released by Why Not Productions in France on November 9th. No information yet as regards English subs (the release is not even listed yet at Why Not's own site) but I'd be surprised if it does have any. Still, a very welcome addition to the Garrel DVD collection.

I sure hope that La Cicatrice Interieure/Liberte la nuit comes with English subs. I just bought Le Vent de la nuit/Elle a passe tant d'heures sous les sunlights... and La Naissance de l'amour/Sauvage innocence. The latter set does have English subs, but both sets said they did on the unreliable amazon.fr pages. There are some unofficial subs online for the other two movies for those that are able to use them. I watched the movies on the big screen with the subs running on my laptop, not an ideal situation.

Cicatrice doesn't need subtitles. Dialogue is minimal. Definitely one of his best films.

Re: Philippe Garrel
Yes, you're right, of course. Most of the small amount of "dialogue" there is (screamed in anguish/anger by Nico) is in English, with a smattering of French and German. The film doesn't even have French subs, in keeping with Garrel's original intentions. And it has been beautifully restored, making its barren, primordial landscapes look surprisingly inviting. All very mythical.J Adams wrote:Cicatrice doesn't need subtitles. Dialogue is minimal. Definitely one of his best films.
Liberte has no subs.

L’Ombre des femmes to begin production this month.
Arte France Cinéma (headed by Olivier Père) has conducted its second selection committee of 2014, choosing to commit to co-producing and pre-purchasing three projects, including L’ombre des femmes by Philippe Garrel. The 25th feature by the filmmaker, who has been selected six times in competition at Venice (in 1991, with a Silver Lion into the bargain, and in 1999, 2001, 2005, 2011 and 2013 with La jalousie [+]) and once at Cannes (in 2008), will revolve around a love triangle in modern-day Paris (the screenplay has been written together with Jean-Claude Carrière, Caroline Deruas and Arlette Langmann). Produced by SBS Productions and with shooting due to start in June, the film will star Stanislas Merhar, Clotilde Courau and Lena Paugam.

Re: Philippe Garrel
Great news, thank for the heads up - missed this at the festivals (might still get a couple of chances though, but will still probably want to own it). It's been a while since the last English-friendly Garrel DVD (AE's Les amants réguliers?)... wish someone would put out Un été brûlant as well
