There is a booklet inside in german with pictures. This is THE definitive edition of the movie.

It is the definitive edition for now until someone bothers to give the film the MoC/CC treatment with superior contrast: the film still looks too bright in some scenes but the e-m-s is very serviceable nonetheless.

For some reason it looks a lot better on my computer than on my TV.

It's an old TV and even if I adjust the image using my best judgement it still looks inferior.

Wrote a mail about the OAR and here's the answer:

Thank you for your email. We're pleased to hear that you're looking forward to WHILE THE CITY SLEEPS and hope that you'll enjoy it.

Regarding the aspect ratio, the film will be presented in 1.37:1. Although widely advertised as being an 'RKO-Scope' picture (which equates to about 2:1), the film was in fact shot in the academy ratio (1.33) and post-converted to 'scope in cinemas at the time, effectively cropping the 1.33 picture to widescreen. This means thatour decision to release the 1.37 print is closest to the director's original intention.

Hangmen Also Die is out on a German DVD from Lichtspielhaus. Runs 130 mins. Can it be the same master as the e-m-s disc?
Extras seem identical. The Lichtspielhaus disc is scarce on Amazon but seems available at other German e-tailers. Sorry for this double post, no response on the previous one, I´m trying it again because this seems like an alternate option to get the e-m-s master on DVD.

This release keeps getting pushed back. It went from a July release to an August release and is now a September release. I may cancel my pre-order if it's delayed again.

That set seems to be excellent, though I don't have it myself. But what certainly makes it the most interesting of all the various releases of "The Indian Tomb" is that it also includes the 1938 version (also in 2 parts), directed by Richard Eichberg. And I tend to find the Eichberg version to be the better one: better actors, more suspense, and almost equally gorgeous in its exoticism.
