Its also can be streamed or rented on Netflix. Americans only. They won’t even let us foreigners on the site.

After August 1st it will be available in VOD on InDemand. Once again – this is only available in the USA.

I'm posting this here since Kino released some Pagnol films...
Who owns Marcel Pagnol films? Specifically, La Femme du Boulanger (The Baker's Wife) ? It's a favorite of mine, but it's not on DVD, not even in France. How's that?

Kino still sell The Baker's Wife on VHS but it's an Interama release. I bought it in one of their $5 VHS sales a few years ago and the box has a 1967 copyright renewal for "Marcel Pagnol S.A." (I can't recall the quality but most Interama releases I've seen of classic French films are quite weak even for VHS.)

fwiw, there is/was a DVD-R version of this at movies unlimited a few months back (in their OOP section). only time I'd ever seen it anywhere. it's pretty rough, so between that and my mood at the time, I've only watched maybe 10 minutes or so of it (think my mood may have been partly influenced by not wanting to deal with the white subtitles that tended to blend into the background, but coulda been something else.)

On November 16 Kino is also releasing Buster Keaton's Sherlock Jr. / Three Ages double feature on DVD and Blu-ray. Pre-order pages are already listed on Amazon.

Our Hospitality was originally scheduled to pair Sherlock Jr (as on their existing DVD). A curious decision to replace it with The Three Ages, which is probably in the worst survival state of Keaton's silent features - I believe only the one original print survives, unless of course another has recently been found.

Unlike some others on this board I like that cover, though I wish a more interesting font had been chosen.
Isn't it interesting, though, that the robot has become a kind of icon for METROPOLIS, given it probably isn't onscreen (asa robot anyway) more than 5-10 minutes.

The Metropolis one is damned good, for Kino- they've been doing fairly well with their blu-ray covers.

Sherlock, Jr, on the other hand, looks like their going back to the good old-fashioned 'just cram any old shit on there' Kino cover aesthetic.

Somewhat of interest is the fact that Keaton's THE THREE AGES offers an option to watch the three intercut episodes which make up the feature as stand-alone shorts. This was something Keaton was prepared to do if the feature tested poorly.*

*The problem here is that Keaton never did cut the feature into three shorts, so Kino's attempt at this can only be conjecture. As those who are familiar with the film will know, Keaton's great closing gag will be rendered pointless without having seen all three episodes cut together.

It was smart for Kino to rethink the Keaton pairings for Blu-ray release. Our Hospitality can be released as a standalone title, whereas Sherlock Jr. is too short for that. At the same time, Sherlock Jr. is attractive enough to be the headline title of a Blu-ray release, whereas few people would buy The Three Ages on its own. I also think it's a clear indication that Our Hospitality is still in the pipeline.

More Keaton is better. Yay, Kino!
