Really? Hopefully I'm missing something- Citizen's Band/Handle With Care seems never to have been put on DVD, and stuff like Melvin and Howard and Married to the Mob have been out of print for a while- do they have worthwhile releases?
(While looking up stuff for this, I found out the Walken version of Who Am I This Time? was directed by Demme- neat!)

We can certainly argue semantics, but notice the word "almost". Married to the Mob and Melvin and Howard had good editions with commentary. Just because they're out of print doesn't mean they never existed.
EDIT: Married to the Mob actually doesn't have a good edition. It's on par with Something Wild. That's one I haven't seen though.

Not surprisingly, "The Darjeeling Limited" was also confirmed last night at Wexner, and I overheard Lee Kline talk about the "Thin Red Line" set - some deleted scenes, no such thing as the 4 hour "Director's Cut."
Those two were much less dish-y than Kim was last year, but it was still a great event.
I thought Something Wild was pretty good. Certainly a better 'yuppie in love with a kooky girl followed by psycho figures from her past who then proceeds to systematically destroy his entire life' film than Who's That Girl? with Madonna and John Mills.

Almost all of Demme's films have very good editions except this one. They hinted that they were working on this on their Facebook page a few months ago, but again, glad to here it's a for sure thing!
I remember liking Something Wild quite a bit back in the day...I wonder whether or not if its held up after all these years.

Regardless of how legitimate your hatred might be, I thought you're required to qualify statements like this on this forum?
Seems okay to say you hate a film without justifying it. It would be another thing if agnamaracs said it was a terrible film without saying why.
Sorry, wasn't trying to invoke admin involvement, just curious why agnamaracs hated it. It seems like a pretty harmless movie that would be unlikely to invoke hatred.
That's an interesting interview for Criterionophiles in general. Kline mentions that he really had to push for Last Year at Marienbad to get the Blu treatment, but that now the general policy is to do simultaneous Blu and DVD for almost everything. There's a little bit of behind the scenes info and Criterion history there too.
The story about Fumiko Takagi translating for negotiations to Japanese companies and how Lee Kline does it better by NOT knowing how to speak Japanese is a funny story.
A glut of announced-for-2010 titles (plus some others that I think are fairly far along), coupled with some early summer ennui, compels me to randomly speculate how I think Criterion will fill the final third of what has surely been their greatest year thus far.
September House (DVD + Blu) Antichrist (DVD + Blu) The French Lieutenant’s Woman (DVD + Blu) Four Feathers (DVD only) VideodromeBlu upgrade
October Fish Tank (DVD + Blu) Cronos (DVD + Blu) Picnic at Hanging Rock redux (DVD + Blu) People on Sunday (DVD only) CharadeBlu upgrade
November
Bob Rafelson and Bert Schneider's New Hollywood (DVD + Blu) The Thin Red Line (DVD + Blu) The Darjeeling Limited (DVD + Blu) Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence (DVD + Blu) Seven SamuraiBlu upgrade
December City Lights (or another major Chaplin) (DVD + Blu) The Night of the Hunter (DVD + Blu) Y Tu Mama Tambien (DVD + Blu) Fanny and AlexanderBlu upgrade BreathlessBlu upgrade
Of course some of those will inevitably get pushed in to next year and there will probably be a couple of surprises (and hopefully another Eclipse set or two) as well. I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see Pasolini's Trilogy of Life, Something Wild, Design for Living, Following, Still Walking, Alice in the Cities, Taking Off, or The Game make it in place of a couple of those. Surely all are due by first quarter of 2011.

They have too many things on their slate right now for these titles (which require quite a lot of work) and of course Seven Samurai will have been released by the time the November B&N sale starts!

Fanny & Alexander is a perfect holiday title, though (esp. since it's set largely around the holiday season). For that matter, Seven Samurai is too. I think they'll happen this year.
