I was just on the MOC site's catalogue page, and sorry if this has already been discussed, but has it been announced what DVD 100 will be?

Regarding No. 100 DVD, I don't think any information has been leaked yet.

Very similar to the Madman cover. I prefer the Madman, it is a little less busy than the MOC, and better layed out. Much, much better font on the Madman. (I get the reason for using the font, but it seems a little too obvious, and it ain't at all pretty)

I mean, I like it, you know, but, um, I just don't love it.

This must be one of the best releases by any company this year. Aside from the pleasant intro by Johnathan Rosenbaum, this film had a pretty weak release (with a good transfer) in the US. Hopefully we can get some nice interviews or a booklet my a Zhang-Ke fanatic like Kent Jones or someone. Very nice cover with a font that's several times better than that cursive crap on the Madman edition. The digital font is perfect for this film.

Great news, and great job on the cover! Not having seen the film yet but with the brief description of the amusement park setting I like the 'cluttered' style of the cover. It strikes me as an all in kind of idea - any pulling back and just showing one or two of the faux-monuments, like the Madman cover does, may lead to a less cluttered cover but also undermines the idea of all this artificial stuff surrounding, trapping and overwhelming the characters.

It is also very nicely composed to have the architecture framing the bottom and sides (along with little touches like keeping the brighter wall of the pyramid blank rather than having the mobile phone moving into that area, instead keeping the mobile enclosed in the area of the darker wall), while there is a nice airy head space above the character, the only liberating piece of space that gets occupied by the title making it feel a little like a thought bubble, or that the film exists to attempt to illuminate and provide an escape from that space outside of all the cheesy landmark clutter.

And count me in as liking the font. It sort of reminds me of the scrolling 'ticker tape' style of outdoor screens showing the next show times or of how stocks are doing!

The World cover makes me puke a little in my mouth. All it's missing is Godzilla coming out of the woman's hair and attacking the sphinx.

Metropolis, now that is amazing but seriously, does the blue label have to be THAT HUGE? Does it really need 2 blu-ray logos and BLU-RAY DISC emblazoned all over it? Put a blu logo in the bottom left corner and you can get rid of 33% of that monstrosity.

Complaint aside, if it's not region B I'll be giving the MOC people more monies.

Well, this certainly shouldn't stop you from opining/whinging publicly, here on these Internets! Likewise, one might say that an avatar of an image of Dennis Franz's wheezy, pocked chops is rather horrific as a "representational specimen," sans actual signature — and one wonders about the sensibility behind the choice.

Nevertheless, and all (true) joking aside, I can thankfully assuage your doubts (perhaps), and tell you that the cover image is very much representative of the film. We hope (and think you will) enjoy this picture, which has been acclaimed as one of the masterpieces of the '00s. And beyond mere "enjoy," it may change certain aspects of one's whole life-worldview. It's a terribly important and moving film which pushes the possibility for a cinema-grandeur into the new millennium.

So is it safe to who exactly is handling the dvd release of the Metropolis restoration in the US? If it's Kino then I'm no doubt going for the MOC version assuming it's not blu only.

Craig, surely you guys can live with it if one or two people don't like a particular cover (you can't please everyone), and I've been very appreciative of most other artworks MoC have put out. I merely said I wasn't keen on it. Hardly the harshest criticism (someone else said it makes them puke). As for Dennis, well he's one of my favourite actors so there it is.

FWIW, the MoC cover is significantly better than Zeitgeist's (hilariously bad) and the alternative posters.
