Upon checking my Netflix queue, I noticed that Jeanne Dielman is now denoted as 'unavailable'. How is this possible? The DVD was just released six months ago. Do titles ever fluctuate between being available and unavailable?

Along with being available for streaming, this now appears to be coming back for disc rental.

In more upbeat news, Netflix has added the latest Sony Hammer collection and some of the recent Code Red titles (The Internecine Project, Goodbye Gemini, Girly, etc.) since I bitched about their not carrying them earlier in this thread. Still no sign of the Universal Barbara Stanwyck collection at all, though, and the Oshima Eclipse set is still listed as "Save." So please save the latter to your queue if you're up for lobbying NF to add it.

I was a bit surprised to find out that I could give my father, who does not live with me, my login and password to Netflix and that he could use the account at his home to stream movies.

What's preventing people from sharing their information like this so that friends and family or even strangers can stream from the same account? (I'm not complaining, I'm just surprised it works.)

They'll log your IP and MAC Addresses and if accounts are being regularly shared and T&Cs are being broken then they'll close the account.

Why are you surprised? Streaming services are kind of worthless if you can only use them on one computer or one IP address.

You can only have your instant viewing account set up on something like 5 computers each year. I learned this the hard way once when I was (somewhat incompetently) trying to reformat/install Windows on a computer (which I did several times in short succession) and each time I made the mistake of reinstalling the instant viewing program. After a few times, it wouldn't let me do it anymore, and told me I had to call Netflix to resolve the situation. (Thankfully, they gave me one more install for the year after I called.)

Like Dylan mentioned in Visconti's The Stranger thread, Netflix screwed up big time by mixing up Welle's Stranger with that one. We'll see how long it takes them to fix it. They certainly haven't been great at fixing movie description errors or complaints of broken discs being sent repeatedly for the same movie. At least in my experience. Calling them for stuff like that seems like a waste of time.

It was already 'developed'. You could have just left it be and never thought about it again. I know companies don't like to leave things static, but taking away a feature because you don't have new ideas on how to fix something that was never broke in the first place is simply dumb. And 2%? I'll take their word..I guess; however, that seems like a gross under-approximation.

Given that it's been three months since that announcement, I bet they'll phase it out sooner rather than later. In the past month, they moved the "friends" link to the far right bottom corner of the page. No matter that there's been close to two thousand complaints on their blog and a whole bunch of protest reviews on their site. It's too bad; there really were some nice lists on their site. Certainly, the friends section was hardly dying on the vine.

Clearly there's a need for a DVD lists site where people can mix and match to create their own lists and interact with each other.
