Re: Criterion/IFC
It was re-edited and dumped by its US producers. If you're interested in the director's cut, I believe Australia has it on DVD.

Re: Criterion/IFC
I have Tavernier's cut on the French Blu--excellent, atmospheric movie, too bad Americans will never see it.
Also, check this out for more info.

IFC has removed all mention of Rivette's THE DUCHESS OF LANGEAIS from their website. Does anyone know if IFC still owns the rights?

Re: Criterion/IFC
I heard rumour of a possible release of Koreeda's Still Walking - would love to have some of his films released by Criterion.
EDIT: found mention of it on page 3 of this thread back in September. Great news, hope they release some of his older films with it, a box with Mabarosi, Distance, After Life and Nobody Knows would be a dream, but unlikely I guess...

By the way, in follow up with the conversation over The Good, the Bad, the Weird, DVD/Blu is coming to the US from IFC on August 17th.

Why bother with Mad Detective when MoC has already released a superb Region FREE Blu? I know I'd rather not have the overlap.Cinephrenic wrote:Johnnie To + IFC = Mad Detective @ Criterion?

Re: Criterion/IFC
Even a cursory reading of MoC's catalog will show you that between them and mainline CC, there is no more than 15% DVD overlap, and only 3 out of MoC's 12 Blu releases occupy CC spine #s.kaujot wrote:Because it happens all the time?

B. They don't care what DVDs are released in foreign markets.

I bought this (i.e. the French Studio Canal DVD) and was surprised to find that it does have English subtitles.I wrote:It looks like the long version of Carlos will be released on DVD in France on June 3. That must be some kind of record! Probably no English subtitles.

Re: Criterion/IFC
Netflix just put up a ton of IFC films for streaming. I wouldn't think much of it except for the fact that some of them are already-released Criterions and some of them are rumored future releases. Who knows what to make of the rest of them. I imagine IFC retained streaming rights to all the films (there are no Criterion logos, even in front of the films they already released).

I had absolutely no idea IFC owned this. Anyone know if the DVD edition is up to par? This would seem like an incredibly obvious choice, if only to cultivate a dialogue with HHH.Matt wrote:Flight of the Red Balloon 2007

Re: Criterion/IFC
I haven't seen the disc, but DVDBeaver doesn't sound too positive - bare bones with not-so-great image quality. Might be a nice disc to upgrade, especially if they can pair it with Three Times (another not-so-great disc).Flike wrote:I had absolutely no idea IFC owned this. Re: Criterion/IFC
I've got it and it is nothing to scream about. Love the film, though. It would make a nice addition to the Collection. Side note - this film, like Summer Hours, was supposed to be a short in an anthology film about the Musee d'Orsay.eljacko wrote:I haven't seen the disc, but DVDBeaver doesn't sound too positive - bare bones with not-so-great image quality. The Man From London would be wonderful. Criterion needs to pry Tarr away from Facets.

Re: Criterion/IFC
Also, Matt didn't list it but there is also a "play" option for Nobody Knows, another IFC film which could use a better DVD release than the one it has now (and could be paired with Still Walking).

Yes, I only listed the titles added today. There are many other IFC titles available for streaming.

Re: Criterion/IFC
Seems like the Criterion/IFC releases have slowed to a trickle. For awhile, we were getting one nearly every month, but now there's been three straight months without one announced. I know Antichrist is still upcoming, but other than that, are there any hard confirms? Y Tu Mamá También, perhaps, and...?

Re: Criterion/IFC
Well they said that they haven't been able to work on Y Tu Mama Tambien due to Cuaron's schedule on Facebook. IFC is also rereleasing Nolan's Following this month, so it might be awhile depending on their rerelease plans. You can watch the rerelease trailer on the IFC films site. Nolan's schedule is probably extremely hectic too. Outside of Still Walking and those two, are there any even left from the original press release? I'm sure there will be a second round of catalog titles and new releases but it might take a few months to ramp up production.
