So, is this code a glitch, or something they're aware of? I'd just assume pre-order everything I'm waiting on using the code, rather than wait for a B&N sale and have the money go straight to Criterion, but I'm wondering if it'll all be canceled...

Re: Out Of Print: StudioCanal Snatches It All Away
I had my first order using the code come in two days ago. Not only that but I placed another order the other day (using the code) and then realized I forgot to add a movie to my order- so I went to cancel it but the order was listed in the "completed orders" section- so I couldn't do anything to it. I sent an email to Criterion and they said that was odd and that they couldn't add the other movie to my order since it already shipped (so they had to have seen my use of the code). So they did the next best thing- sent me a ten dollar gift card.Flike wrote:So, is this code a glitch, or something they're aware of? Long story short: They must know about the code and us using it- but I think they are enjoying the extra business- therefore your pre-orders will be safe.

Also in stock still at DVD Planet. With coupon, it's no more expensive than DVD Empire.tajmahal wrote:In stock at DvdempireHistoryProf wrote:Orphic Trilogy now gone again from Amazon and everywhere else it seems.

Re: Out Of Print: StudioCanal Snatches It All Away
was in a border's today hoping to pick up either Bigger Than Life or Dillinger is Dead w/ the weekend 40% off coupon, but of course they didn't get either. but browsing to see what Criterions they did have in the meager selection I spied a copy of The Third Man 2 discer sitting on the shelf! I have the blu-ray, but figured that was too good to pass up as insurance - they didn't have any of the other OOP titles though...very odd.

Re: Out Of Print: StudioCanal Snatches It All Away
I went in to my Borders yesterday on the off chance a copy of Ran might be hiding somewhere. No luck, but I'm not greedy; I'm still quite happy about finding The Third Man 6 weeks ago. My 40% coupon lies unused...
I've been wondering, though, just how much of the probability of finding something is the title itself vs how long it's been since it went OOP. I have no sense how many average shoppers will know that a DVD is no longer available - especially since the sales staff didn't know (and one had never even heard of the movie).

These are OOP DVDs, not hidden bars of gold. Your chances of finding one at a neighborhood brick and mortar store are not that bad, assuming the place has sold Criterions for a while.

That doesn't explain why Glenn Beck's newest advertiser is Janus Films

i picked up a copy of ran at my B&N in january after holding off in hopes that criterion would get the rights again and the blu-ray would be back. great way to start off 2010.lady wakasa wrote:I went in to my Borders yesterday on the off chance a copy of Ran might be hiding somewhere. It's time to play... tick, tock, tick, tock... Beat the Cloc
Well, placed an order for four EAH titles ("Grand Illusion," "Mayerling," "Gerveise" and "Tales of Hoffman"... wanted "Le jour se lève" but it's already OOP) and a coffee mug for a little under $55 w/free shipping. Just to be clear: after tonight (or tomorrow) Studio Canal OOP titles that still appeared tonight on Criterion's website as available ("Trafic," "Le corbeau," etc.) will not be available directly from Criterion anymore and will show 'Out of Print' instead of an 'Add to Cart' link, right? As of tomorrow Criterion is legally prevented from selling these to anyone except those that have already bought them... or can they still sell them as long as they have inventory left over? Just wondering because a couple of titles piqued my interest but not enough to bite despite them being much cheaper than in stores I was looking at earlier today.

Re: Out Of Print: StudioCanal Snatches It All Away
two weeks ago I placed an order for Forbidden Games CC, Mayerling and Gervaise EAH, and Revanche blu to get to $50 for the free shipping and take advantage of the 25% discount. Never heard anything until today: first an email saying they received the order, then 2 hours later an email saying the whole thing shipped! The backorder dates on the EAH titles when I placed the order said mid April...so I'm very happy to see them shipped out so much sooner.
It is odd how they don't confirm the orders though. they should work on that. makes me nervous.

^^^ At least I'm in the same town Criterion is based (NYC) so the time/distance the package will have to travel will be kept to a minimum. 8-[

Unless there's a town called NYC in Kentucky, you'll be waiting a few days for a delivery from the South. Check your e-mail, should have a tracking number.

Grand Illusion and The Fallen Idol now officially OOP on the website. So if you've been waiting for that cold splash of reality before tracking down a copy of either, now's the time to swing into desperate action.

Time to get started on the next round? I just ordered Discreet Charm to get the ball rolling. . . that one will certainly be missed in the collection when it goes. I'd been meaning to get my own copy for a long time.

Re: Out Of Print: StudioCanal Snatches It All Away
NOT THE EAH VERSION. Add To Cart link still works, but for how much longer? Can Criterion still sell in their website now-OOP titles as long as they have inventory left over? Or do they have to stop selling them even if they have stacks of unsold one's in the (KY) warehouse?Brian C wrote:Grand Illusion... now officially OOP on the website.

Canal's going to be taking the rest of their catalog soon enough.

Scary thought but true enough... Well least Criterion will probably be giving heads up on this, which is great. One title definitely not to miss out is Victor Erice's Spirit of the Beehive, if you haven't snatched it already don't hesitate to if you get the chance.knives wrote:Canal's going to be taking the rest of their catalog soon enough.
Edit: Oh so it isn't part of Canal, I thought it was considering that Optimum released it at region 2.

Yeah, my interpretation of this ..... from the number of titles, and how diverse of a list it was (so it didn't figure to have been caused all by ad hoc specific plans for each film) ...... was that it was a high level general policy shift at Studio Canal. Therefore, I wouldn't expect any of the existing licenses from them to be renewed whenever their current terms run out.knives wrote:Canal's going to be taking the rest of their catalog soon enough.
