1. Goodbye, Dragon Inn – Tsai Ming Liang
2. Ce Jour-Là – Raul Ruiz
3. L’intrus – Claire Denis
4. Riviera – Anne Villaceque
5. Demonlover – Olivier Assayas

7. Innocence – Lucile Hadzihalilovic
8. Woman on the Beach – Hong Sang Soo

I'll post reasons for choices after the final list is revealed, in the "Defend your darlings" thread.

I'd like to put in a last minute plug for Alexander Payne's segment from the film Paris, je t'aime, called 14th arrondissement. It's fairly hilarious, but proves to be rather poignant as well. It's only 7 minutes long, and you can see it on Netflix Instant Viewing, starting 1:43:37 into Paris, je t'aime.

I do have a question, have any of you included "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days" in your lists? Feel free to exercise discretion if you please

Good suggestion, swo. It may just grab a spot on my list.

Very happy to see Battle in Heaven topping a list. There were moments where I feared that I would never find someone who likes the film more than I do!

Huh! I like this idea of breaking Paris je t'aime up; I thought about including the film on my list but I am not a fan of every single segment. However, you're exactly right- this is the shining jewel of the lot of 'em. Great suggestion indeed.

Mildly perverse perhaps but here's my bottom 15.
Just remembered I left out Carax's contribution to Tokyo ,which would have slotted in here too.

If that's the case, then it's really too bad. INLAND EMPIRE is so much better than Mulholland Drive. Multiply Mulholland Drive by 100 and you get INLAND EMPIRE.

In my top ten: I've placed The New World, There Will Be Blood, Bright Star, In the Mood For Love, INLAND EMPIRE. I suspect The White Ribbon would have made to my top 10 (just by the way it looks to me) but it won't come to my town until Valentine's Day.

ha, I have Mulholland Dr. and Inland Empire as #1 and 2 on my list. I couldn't help myself. Yi Yi, I'm Not There and Vendredi Soir round out my top 5.

Gus van Sant is the only director with three films on my list though none is higher than 35.

About one quarter of my list (11) is from the year 2007.

I voted for three Parisian city symphonies, all by American directors.

In a decade full of acclaimed documentaries, I only found room for one (Capturing the Friedmans), and it just barely scraped by at #47. Odd because my 70s, 80s and 90s lists were full of 'em.

Am I the only person who voted for Mean Girls?

It made mine, definitely the most apt American movie of the decade in terms of its portrayal of the North-South divide. (And I love me some Amy Adams any day of the week!)
