Re: Criterion Facebook Page
Got an "Good idea" for my question concerning "The Story of Temple Drake" and pre-code titles in general, maybe under the Eclipse banner.
Universal has still several pre-code titles left that are unreleased - don't know, whether they're planning to put out a second volume of their Backlot pre-code set, and there's Fox sitting on several titles as well.
If only Warner would put out a fourth Forbidden Hollywood set but that's a different topic.

Has anyone asked if they have plans for Harakiri blu-ray? I don't use Facebook, so could someone ask for me.

Re: Criterion Facebook Page
So Criterion said "Stay Tuned" to an inquiry about Mike Leigh's Topsy Turvey.
All of the Leigh films at Focus are OOP : Topsy Turvery, Secrets and Lies, Life is Sweet, Career Girls. Hopefully they have a couple and put together a Leigh box. It's nice that we will be getting at least one good film from the Focus deal.

I asked about Bill Forsyth ("That Sinking Feeling," "Comfort and Joy," or "Housekeepig") and got a 'nothing at this time -- sorry!' #-o

I asked about the Pasolini trilogy, Criterion commented "everyone out there knows more than we do"! Expect it on DVD and BD in 2010.

That is actually the second response on Ruiz, confirming him for Eclipse.

Re: Criterion Facebook Page
At this point, any Ruiz is good Ruiz, assuming they don't duplicate the titles already available in R1, and Eclipse means more than one (let's hope it's five). The phenomenal City of Pirates, which came out on an unsubbed French disc a few years back, is there for the taking.Cinephrenic wrote:That is actually the second response on Ruiz, confirming him for Eclipse.

I hope we'll see a wide range of his films, not just from one time period. Although it would be nice for his Chilean work to finally get a release. Any Ruiz is fine by me as long as it isn't just a re-release, would love to see On Top of the Whale.

I'm not sure I trust any of the Criterion Facebook answers, they all sound like the result of a magic 8 ball.

Re: Criterion Facebook Page
i was just wondering the same thing. there's a steady torrent of questions about releases on the facebook page with many responses eagerly interpreted as being "on the way", yet we only get roughly 50 releases a year. even if the facebook questions were encompassing every release that's coming (probably not likely), it sounds like it would still take a few years to get caught up with what's been rumored already, and i doubt criterion has a solid three-year schedule. heck, we sadly know that three-months' notice can be shaky.hidaniel wrote:I'm not sure I trust any of the Criterion Facebook answers, they all sound like the result of a magic 8 ball.
so many of their responses sounds like they don't hate the idea of a suggestion being part of the collection if they had unlimited time and resources, but not "it'll be out in august."
reading through all of these facebook posts, i was curious if any titles/directors that were first suggested through facebook have been released or at least solidly confirmed?

Re: Criterion Facebook Page
There might not have been enough time between the formation of the Facebook forum and the March 2010 release schedule to know at this point. We might need a year or two before a proper sample can shed light on your question.Amazing Goose wrote:reading through all of these facebook posts, i was curious if any titles/directors that were first suggested through facebook have been released or at least solidly confirmed?
However, I did ask about Che and 8 1/2 on Blu back in the Facebook page's nascence, and they have come true months later. Not that it means anything of course (refer to my first comment in this post), because I am sure those were planned - and in the case of 8 1/2, being remastered - well before.

Sigh. You just have to love the cretins who think that Ozu is "kinda boringz."

Ha! That's an actual quote from some guy!! I thought Matt was just characterizing the general level of discourse; I can't believe someone called Ozu "boringz."

Re: Criterion Facebook Page
You know you have to include Tarkovsky as a cretin, with his one line dismissal of Ozu in a diary entry. As I recall, he wrote this after viewing An autumn Afternoon (a wonderful film) on tv while staying with Antonioni. Tarkovsky also offered some praise for Terminator, so there you go. Tarkovsky was a harsh critic. Tarkovsky and Ozu were both great filmmakers.Matt wrote:Sigh. You just have to love the cretins who think that Ozu is "kinda boringz."

Maybe because "Terminator" is awesome.Tarkovsky also offered some praise for Terminator, so there you go.
At any rate, I doubt Tarkovsky's diary entry said "That Ozus is kindaz boringz" so I don't think it's the same thing.

If he had said "Da Bomb Diggity" then balance would be achieved, but a mere "da bomb" does not suffice to counter "boringz".Tom Hagen wrote:Everything's okay now: another Facebook poster has noted that far from being boringz, "OZU = Da Bomb!"
