It's owned by the Scorsese World Cinema Foundation which will exclusively release their films with Criterion. You can watch it for free on TheAutuers in the mean time.

You can purchase a marvellous English subtitled DVD here, if you want. (Only 20$, a low price for an Asian DVD!)DrunkenGaijin wrote:Does anyone think there could be any hope of Criterion picking up any films by Kim Ki-young? It would be great to see some of his work as he has been cited as a primary influence to many of today's best Korean directors. From what I've read "the Housemaid" (1960) is supposed to be his best.

Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.2
So, with the February announcements around the corner (probably on Monday the 16th), what is everybody's guess?
I'm optimistic that Stagecoach (DVD/BD) finally makes it out, but I'm not sure what else is likely.

There are still outstanding newsletter clues for:
Cronos
Stagecoach
Lola Montes
Brakhage Blu
Lola and Brakhage may be a bit soon though. I also wouldn't be surprised if they announce Following.
And I'm going to go out on a limb and say Naruse Eclipse.

Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.2
They said it looked like an Eclipse would be announced via Facebook. Would guess that samurai box but it looks like that's been moved to the main line. Naruse probably isn't that far-fetched.
Also:
Stagecoach
Brakhage Vol. I and II (Blu-rays!)
and something from the IFC deal.

The funniest part is the idea that Criterion would release five Eclipse sets in a yeartavernier wrote:Well, there's the Eclipse line for 2010.

I had the pleasure of seeing a print of Lola Montes earlier this year and it would make for a glorious Criterion Blu-ray.swo17 wrote:There are still outstanding newsletter clues for:

Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.2
Seven Samurai was just released on blu in Japan. Don't they have to wait six months until they release it? Probably they will announce it in the first quarter of 2010!

This sounds plausible, but ultimately uneventful. I nice break on my bank account, perhaps.

yeah, January is going to be a huge hit on the bank account for me. Luckily, Oct.-Dec. are not.

Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.2
The way they are dividing up canon and contemporary releases next year is perfect (so far). Not only that, but I'll be purchasing both of February's modern titles.

Lots of releases I've never seen that I'm greatly interested in. I may be most excited for Make Way for Tomorrow, despite no Blu-ray. Can't fault them for that, though.
