See DVDBeaver, Odeon Entertainment released a pretty good looking edition of it here in the UK recently.

Not the answer I wanted to hear, unfortunately...peerpee wrote:See DVDBeaver, Odeon Entertainment released a pretty good looking edition of it here in the UK recently.
No booklet, no commentary, no extras, no subtitles, horrible menus, not available at Amazon...

Re: MoC Wishlist & Random Speculation
The Odeon edition is available at Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001CG23JC" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It uses the same HD restoration as the Kino, but it's progressive. I'm sorry it's not the answer you wanted to hear but we're not going to release a film that already has a UK release made from the best master available.
The lack of booklet, commentary, etc is reflected quite well by the price.

Any chance of MoC releasing a definitive version of DER MÜDE TOD?
The Image one is crappy at best.

Re: MoC Wishlist & Random Speculation
Is there any chance of MoC snagging any Eisenstein?
I don't know a thing about the rights issues to the films in the UK, so I'm begging your pardon if this question has been answered before, or brings up baaaad memories.

The rights were with Tartan, but now the boxsets are OOP.

The Metropolis restoration will be finished by the end of the year, will we have in our hands a MoC blu-ray before summer?

Re: MoC Wishlist & Random Speculation
That would be great (and SD too, please!), but I could imagine that FWMS/Transit would first want to tour the film in at least some cinemas, and not just in Germany. I'd actually love to see the new resto on the big screen first, though of course I'd go for an MoC disc as soon as it came out.

Re: MoC Wishlist & Random Speculation
It will definitely go to cinemas, it's a big enough film that it would be programmed into regional cinemas not just arthouses - I can't wait!

Much more likely to be this time next year. All being well -- ie. a Xmas 2010 release.perkizitore wrote:The Metropolis restoration will be finished by the end of the year, will we have in our hands a MoC blu-ray before summer?

Not wishing to tempt providence but is there any mildly encouraging news on the Epstein front?

Heirs and relatives being traced. No further news, but we're pushing all the time to speed things up.

Re: MoC Wishlist & Random Speculation
With the news the French label Wild Side is releasing:
Nicholas Ray - The Lusty Men and Wind Across the Everglades
Anthony Mann - Devil's Doorway
King Vidor - Northwest Passage
Samuel Fuller - Run of the Arrow
Fritz Lang - Beyond a Reasonable Doubt and While the City Sleeps
...is there any chance of MOC picking up the UK rights for these rare films?

Re: MoC Wishlist & Random Speculation
I imagine most if not all of my suggestions will have been brought up at some point before, and I am completely ignorant in terms of rights holders/issues compared to others on these boards so forgive me if some of these are completely asinine.
'Yellow Earth', a film crying out for a release, not to mention the contextual supplements a label like MOC could provide with a booklet and docs. about the Fifth Generation filmmakers, etc.
'Level Five' - There needs to be more Marker available and with 'La Jetee' and 'Sans Soleil' already released (in perfectly adequate form), plus the Arte and Wexner releases of 'The Last Bolshevik', 'The Case of the Grinning Cat' and 'A Grin Without A Cat' plus others I suppose 'Level 5' would be a strong option in terms of it being a pseudo-fictional 'feature' of sorts. Although a box set of Marker's collected travelogues would be great, if not possible as it's known that Marker refuses them to be shown. Or perhaps 'Le Joli Mai' or 'Far From Vietnam'.
And while I'm at it I'll throw in Ousmane Sembene too, 'Borom Sarret', 'Xala', etc. are calling out for releases.

We already know you are releasing City Girl, so what's left? Only Haunted Castle, but please tell me that restored prints of Der Gang in die Nacht and Der brennende Acker exist! [-o<peerpee wrote:we're lining up more Murnau and Lang - please bear with us.
