I must have missed the post that indicated no January release. Do you remember what it was?

I hope it's not a MoC title, more movies need special treatment.

Noooo! Well, hopefully January is surprising, then. From the sound of it, Stagecoach needs some more work, so maybe the only delayed title we'll be seeing is Che.

The pessimist in me believes that any other Franju plans will doubtlessly be Eclipse or Essential Arthouse. Even Marcel Carne can't get a main line release.

Glad to have a reason for the delay.

Another silly Criterion response:

"Better not tell you now." Sorry, but that's what the darn thing said!

Question regarding 1991: The Year Punk Broke. Don't know what that means, hopefully it's still "in the cards".

In response to "Videodrome on blu-ray, please?"

Criterion said "Thank you."

I think it's a Magic 8 Ball joke.

I get the magic 8 ball reference. It's just a strange way of saying "no comment."

I'm assuming this is still in the works on some level, even if just stalled. Wish they would have offered up at least a nugget of info about the release.

From facebook, when ask what are they currently working on (restoring):

Criterion:
Went back to check. Saw something that looked like a clown with weird hazy red, yellow and orange on one MTI rig. Another was laying back something that looked like Pedro Costa. Door was closed to the other room. Looked like good stuff though.

Unless it's freak clown j-horror (haven't seen HAUSU so no idea), I'll bet it's Fellini's CLOWNS. In which case, ugh (though the film has its fans).

I just pray they don't use a clown as the cover. Clowns are terrible, terrible things.

If this was just an indiscernible blob that made him think of a clown, perhaps this is referring to something by Brakhage?

Not really a hint so I thought I'd post here. A Criterion of The Silent World is pretty much my 'dream Criterion' and they had this to say when asked:
Thanks for saying so. The Cousteau films have been a goal of ours for a long time, but they've ben as elusive as the jaguar shark.
Maybe someday. ](*,)

I remember The Silent World being quite brutal to animals, similarily to The Savage Innocents. Would cause quite a stir if filmed today.

More von Trier on the way, and I think it's Breaking the Waves!

Regarding Sally Potter's "Orlando," Criterion responded to one poster:
Hey Lisa, thanks for the reminder. We just checked into it and heard a rumor there may be a US re-release next year, just FYI.
And to another poster an hour later:
Could be, but no rights at the moment.
I know they like to be vague, but to pass on a rumor of a US re-release next year and then say it "could be" Criterion...well, I don't know. :-k

Yeah, I'm wondering if the Cousteau Society/estate/whatever is preventing release as to not mar Cousteau's image as an eco-warrior.
