Yes, I think it's quite good. There's more discussion about it here.james wrote:Is Cronos even that good?

Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.2
If Criterion releases more Rossellini this year I think my head will explode.
Che is a no brainer for November/December, especially with the holidays around the corner. And Monsoon Wedding is the only other newsletter clue to be announced yet, right? So Cronos is probably on there too. Since there was an Eclipse set announced last month we'll probably get one more spine # besides that, unless November is a small month like August (but I doubt it).
There is plenty I'd like to see before the year is out, Wender's Paris, Texas in particular, but Wings of Desire's release last month doesn't get my hopes up. Greenaway is probably farfetched too. I hope the long awaited Red Desert comes out of left field and everyone can be happy for once on a release day.

There's also Revanche to release.

With all of the remaining newsletter clues, and given that there are usually only a few December releases, there shouldn't be too many surprises left for 2009.

Completely forgot the War trilogy. If I can get it under sixty I might actually pre-order a mainline for what seems like forever.

Revanche probably won't come along for a while yet. It's still in it's first run in theaters.james wrote:There's also Revanche to release.

Also Red Shoes will take a while. Maybe Picnic at Hanging Rock for December?

Perhaps with the lean release schedules in both August and September they'll add another title for Decemeber? [-o<Tom Hagen wrote:With all of the remaining newsletter clues, and given that there are usually only a few December releases, there shouldn't be too many surprises left for 2009.
Wishful thinking, I know.

Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.2
Could it be possible for someone to like gather what its known is in the pipe, and maybe have it in the start of this thread?
Think its really hard to keep track or all the upcoming (i dont mean the ones already on criterion.com). Maybe it would be too many speculations?

I have a good feeling about by Brakhage Vol. II seeing a November release.

Ye Olde Random Speculation:
November
Walkabout Redux + Blu
Picnic at Hanging Rock Redux + Blu
Cronos + Blu
Rossellini's War Trilogy
December
Che + Blu
Stagecoach + Blu
Down by Law Blu
I know Che was originally slated as a fall release, but someone at Hollywood Elsewhere claimed to have a 12/8/09 streetdate.

I have given up on Greenaway. I'm certain now the e-mail I got from Mulvaney was just a dream.

Only according to calendars.redbill wrote:12/8 is fall...
I always think of Criterion dates and other stuff announced by season as: spring=March, April, May; summer=June, July, August; fall=September, October, November; winter=Dec, Jan, Feb. Anyway it'll be cold as fuck with two feet of snow in Denver on December 8, so it will be winter to me.
Huh? Is this further reference to my season-identifying impairment?aox wrote:ridiculousJeff wrote:December

Nope. The film will have been released almost a year when it comes out on disc in the US. The turnaround is terrible for this poor film.Jeff wrote:Huh? Is this further reference to my season-identifying impairment?aox wrote:ridiculousJeff wrote:December

Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.2
Ah. It is indeed a long time. It has followed the old VHS sell-through model, when movies were released "priced for rental" about six months after their theatrical debut, then priced for sale to the general public six months after that. IFC's Blockbuster-exclusive disc was made available in June -- not that it amounts to anything. I expect that the Criterion set will have a $50 MSRP due to the length of the film(s) -- probably three discs for standard and two discs for blu.aox wrote:Nope. Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.2
I'm going to be completely wrong on this but I predict a Roeg reissue double-bill for November: Walkabout reissue on DVD + the Blu-Ray, and Don't Look Now in a new CC edition replacing the old Paramount (would be nice to finally have a release with cleaned up sound).

I was told that they had no plans for Don't Look Now, though it was some time ago, and Mulvaney's lied a few times since then, anyway.

I recently got turned on to Don't Look Now, and really enjoyed it. Would be a welcome entry to the collection, and it certainly fits the pedigree of the stuff they've been releasing lately.

Praying for Naked Kiss and Shock Corridor re-releases and the French New Wave Eclipse set and/or any Jacques Rivette release.

Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.2
I'm thinking that pairing Walkabout with the re-issue of Picnic at Hanging Rock might be more likely. I can see their ad in Film Comment now: "The Criterion Collection is proud to present the director's cuts of two Australian classics, with new high-definition anamorphic transfers for the first time in the U.S.! Both films are available in either two-disc DVD sets or high-definition Blu-ray editions. These definitive editions have been personally supervised by directors Peter Weir and Nicolas Roeg, and each comes with a host of informative new supplements."
