Re: International Blu-ray discs
Ipcress is region-free according to this very reliable listing. None of ITV's other Blu-rays were region-locked, either. I would like to see some caps from this one, though, before buying...
I'm a bit annoyed that Warner's lovely Quo Vadis is inexplicably being held off for five months in the US while being available in Japan right now.

Re: International Blu-ray discs
Thanks for the website pointer... Yeah, apparently I'll be returning the Quo Vadis DVD I just ordered a couple of days ago, and waiting for that Blu. Went ahead earlier this morn and ordered Ipcress File; been some positive comments regarding it, and since I never quite got around to getting it on DVD, willing to chance it...Cosmic Bus wrote:Ipcress is region-free according to this very reliable listing. Re: International Blu-ray discs
Kurosawa Blu-Ray 4 Disc Collection from Kadokawa
amazon jp
Includes:
Rashomon (Restored Edition) [also sold separately]
The Quiet Duel
Madadayo
Ran
Extras: 7 minute restoration on Rashomon, Theatrical Trailer in SD
That's All! Very skimpy extras considering the vast amount of material already produced for them.
Subtitles? dunno yet.

Added links for: 5 Easy Pieces (3.19 German release), Fanny and Alexander (Swedish release with English subs), Chen's The Promise (HK release), Haynes' I'm Not There (region free Scandinavian release), Kurosawax4 (2.6 Japanese release) and did some other clean-up.

Nice! The current SD DVD has a terrible transfer. I might order this, as I have been thinking about the film recently. The scene where Nicholson plays the piano on the truck is one of the great moments of freedom of expression in cinema.yoshimori wrote:5 Easy Pieces (3.19 German release)

Hi there,
and first, Happy XMas everybody and everywhere...
I would like to know if the only release from Kieslowski on Blu-Ray from which I've heard so far - Three Colors (Bleu-Blanc-Rouge) - Trikoloren, has been released ? or is it postponed (to when ?) or deleted ?

I can't find a test of these Blu-Ray box set

Has anything of significance, or anything at all been released in Region C as of yet?

But, I believe, only the Swedish has English subs, not the Norwegian edition.Apparently the Scandinavian Fanny and Alexander BD is region-free.

Re: International Blu-ray discs
As Tears Go By is out in Hong Kong. No confirmation yet, but a few sources say it's region-free -- a safe bet anyway given Mega Star's track record.
Also, a correction: the HK Exiled is region-free, not Region A (regardless of what DVD Asian says).

There are quite a few titles out in Russia, but mostly Hollywood stuff. The only domestic titles (AFAIK) are some karaoke discs and a single movie I've never heard of. Indian films seem to be doing a bit better; some Googling turns up BD releases of Om Shanti Om, Heyy Babyy, Saawariya (also out in the U.S.), Sivaji, and Jodhaa Akbar. I have no idea what any of these are, so someone else will have to speak to their "significance." China has no local BDs yet, but Sony has been importing their own discs into the country and selling those. We'll probably see some true Chinese BDs this year.manicsounds wrote:Has anything of significance, or anything at all been released in Region C as of yet?

Re: International Blu-ray discs
hi there, is there somewhere a Blu-Ray release of some Atom Egoyan movies (already released, or planned )? I really hope that one day Exotica will be released on Blu-Ray (is it still Miramax which owns this title ?) This would be a major improvement considering the DVD z1 was non-anamorphic.
By the way, IMHO (and just in a picture-eye-candy-perspective) Where The Truth Lies really deserved an HD transfer... Too bad...

Yes, there is no option in the menu to remove the subs when watching in english, and I could'nt remove them with the remote on the fly, Dead Man has the same problem.yoshimori wrote:I read the french Wild at Heart has forced subs on the english track. Anyone have the disc and can confirm?

That's coming to the US, too.Don Lope de Aguirre wrote:No one seems to really use this thread any more (shame) but I wasn't sure where else to post this.
But there's a whole slate of interesting UK-only Blu-ray releases coming this fall, including single-disc (and affordable) releases of The Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind, North by Northwest, Punch-Drunk Love, Heat, Belle de Jour, Contempt, and many more. Yes, we should update this thread.

Is anyone keeping a list of all-region blu-ray releases issued outside the Region A area?

Re: International Blu-ray discs
Punch Drunk Love and The New World (Extended Cut) will be released in the US by year's end. Warner has talked about North by Northwest a few times, I think they're doing another full restoration pass for its Blu-ray debut sometime next year. If the UK release uses the current SD-DVD transfer which is really filtered it's unlikely it'll be a big step up in detail, where the eventual Warner release should look great.
As far as finding region free discs, here's another decent list of films unavailable in the US released elsewhere. I've found a number of region-free discs with English subs that look interesting from Europe, the biggest issue I've had is that extras are usually PAL-encoded which my US player can't handle.
