More Japanese and French films due to the Quota. But the war trilogy would be great, yeah.james wrote:What are they supposed to be releasing next, anyway?psufootball07 wrote:So tomorrow around dinner time (east coast) we should be able to see some more releases on the website?

Wenders' Paris, Texas and Wings of Desire (DVD and Blu-ray) will most certainly be announced today.

I also wouldn't mind Howard's End...

Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation
As far as I can recall, Sept. is a "white" sale month. Bed linens are cheap, dvds not so much. So it's fine if they get the crappy releases out of the way then. Why the hell Criterion ever got the rights to the Merchant/Ivory films is beyond me.
I'll go out on a limb and predict the Scorsese shorts.

Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation
Any guesses on rereleases? I'd bet either Howard's End or Walkabout since they seem to only be doing the rereleases for those going in Blu. Secretly hoping the Fullers or AR gets rereleased first though.

I'm surprised nobody mentions A Man Escaped as a possibility for Sep

Would love to see some classic French (e.g., Renoir, Carne, Gremillion). Not a prediction, though. Just more of the continual wishin'

Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation
Maybe. We know that Wings is due in September, but I wonder if they might wait release Paris at another time. The Mulvaney had told me that both of those and Alice in the Cities were in the works. Of course, none of those films really go together, though Wings and Paris are of the same period and could conceivably be sequential spines. If that's the case though, it's odd that only Wings was mentioned in the Times article and the newsletter clue.denti alligator wrote:Wenders' Paris, Texas and Wings of Desire (DVD and Blu-ray) will most certainly be announced today.

Well, only Pigs and Battleships was directly alluded to in its hint, even if they obtusely suggested the others.

- Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence
- People on Sunday

my guesses:
criterion:
Wings of Desire
That Hamilton Woman
something French
Life of Oharu
eclipse
out of left field, like an "early films of Michael Powell" or the french quota could be filled here.
bluray
Wings of Desire
Walkabout
Armageddon*

Cronos and Howards End I suspect will be October, seems like an October release, Che I think will be november along with Monterey Pop. I'm wondering if we're going to get Grand Illusion on Bluray this year in November or December. that would be spectacular.
Che could very well be the main/only December release, spine 500 seems a likely candidate, but we'd need five-ish releases each in sept, oct and november to make that possible.

Re: the Opposite Day Approach
The word on this is that Gorin is still working on the transfers, so if this is true: a) it's still happening; b) the delay isn't just Criterion sitting on it; and c) (the most dubious assumption) it might end up on Criterion rather than Eclipse after all, if they're going to this much trouble.domino harvey wrote:I know what won't be coming: the Gorin box
