I have no idea what was going on in that... but it sure looked good. and the music made me almost think that I was watching The Antiques Roadshow...

It's going to be weird to see this, which looks like a quirky romantic comedy, after his Vengeance trilogy. I keep expecting the lady to interrupt a kiss by biting the guy's tongue off and stealing his organs.[/i]

The previous one, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, already showed his knack for dark comedy and I'm glad he went in that direction with this new one. I'm certainly not expecting your run of the mill family film!

But at the same time the teaser didn't do anything that really blew my mind in that fashion. My expectations are still for something totally fresh and amazing, but the teaser didn't tease in that direction. But it looks cute.

Is the cyborg voiced by Al Franken?

How strange. Seems like quite a departure for Chan-Wook!

Have to say I'm far more looking forward to Evil Live actually.

Actually, I'm glad he's taking a breather with this one. Sometimes it's good for directors to take a left turn here and there just to try something new and I find that this kind of career tactic is very helpful. Now that his Vengeance Trilogy is behind him, I think he's gathering strengths to surprise us once more when he eventually starts working on his horror project that you refered to. I personally cannot wait for it either but let's see what his "Punch Drunk Love Phase" delivers!

True true. I guess this will be a real test of his mettle. I just hope he doesn't return to JSA territory - good, but ultimately forgettable.

Discussion for a different thread but in regards to Evil Live, he had me at "This will be the darkest film I've ever made".

Agreed. Park Chanwook has a big enough fanbase in the US for us to get an eventual release.

I thought it was okay, but somewhat silly and over-quirky. There were some good and interesting ideas, but usually they didn't go anywhere. At times it reminded me of a (Korean?) music video.

Interestingly enough, they felt that Park isn't really that "Korean" as Korean directors ago. And unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to go into detail on that.
I can understand that; his style is as western as they come.

I really want to see this film-- scratch that, I have been really wanting to see this film for about a year now. Park is one of my favorite directors, and his Vengeance trilogy is pretty much perfect. My love for his films has nothing to with the amount of violence, either, so I'm not at all put off by the descriptions of Cyborg, as some seem to be. Of course, I am properly hyped for Evil Live...

Concerning the former, however, maybe I'll cave and order a Region-1 bootleg off of eBay, since I have yet to buy a region free player...

Evokative Films picked up the theatrical and DVD rights for this film at Cannes for Canada. They will be doing a short theatrical release followed by a new DVD.

Well, thank god it's finally coming to R1. Think regular amazon will pick it up, or will I have to go through .ca?

Evokative is very new player in the film distribution business, and they currently only have two titles on DVD (with a handful more coming) from a total of ten films they have rights for. Right now, the discs are only available through their website though I would imagine they will have larger distribution in place as their catalog grows.
