Fake Criterion Covers

Ah, the Criterion edition of "Pet Sounds."

I had ideas for a fake Criterion cover for TIE ME UP TIE ME DOWN, but I could never find good-quality stills for it. If anyone wants to do this and can find those (or has a DVD and can do screencaps), go ahead and run with it.

IDEA 1: close-up of the two main characters' hands cuffed together.

IDEA 2: the original poster. (There are apparently two different versions. I like this all-blue one.) Great design. Also a good opportunity to change its title back to ATAME rather than the silly six-word monstrosity we got.

The third idea I had is probably not permissible on this board. Blame the SALO cover for opening the door for nudity.

OK, I'll grant that there are a couple more examples than I initially thought of, though saying "they always let Wes Anderson's bro do it" seems a bit of a stretch, as the only instance I can see of this is the handwriting by the spine on Bottle Rocket.

Again, I like your cover, but when you break rules that have never been broken before by Criterion, I'm no longer convinced that your cover could pass as one of theirs. Given the handwritten branding on BR, I'll grant you that dalliance, but as far as I'm concerned, the following are undebatable:

1. The wacky C cannot have rough edges. You can build something subtle off it like they did for Sweet Movie, but that's it.

2. The boxes containing the year of original release and branding The Criterion Collection should be perfectly square and go all the way to the left edge. They should also both be the same color, but not necessarily the same color as the wacky C. (Making the year box orange would make the year easier to read anyway.)

Aside from a laserdisc edition of Akira, no. Well, no feature-length animation anyway although, to be fair, they did include animated shorts on Equinox (The Magic Treasure) and Science is Fiction (Bluebeard)

I've always thought Allegro Non Troppo would be great as Criterion's first animated title. I believe the current release (though decent in terms of transfer, but has absolutely nothing else) is an Image title.

That begs the question, however, would it be considered Criterion's first animated title, as a fairly significant portion of it is live-action?

Personally I'd like some Laloux in here. Fantastic Planet seems to be the only one released in R1 and I find the subs horrendous.

Actually, Allegro non Troppo has plenty of special features. Several of Bozzetto's shorts, and an Italian television documentary.

The only advantage a Criterion would have would be...well, a better transfer and more extras.

Hey all, it's been a while since I posted my Lost in Translation and Dersu Uzala mockups, and I promised to make some for Let the Right One In and Eternal Sunshine, so that's what I'm doing now.



Any thoughts or suggestions? I'm working on using a template to make this one a full DVD cover, including the back and spine.

Cosmic Bus, I love that cover. I have never seen Repulsion but I now immediately want to pick up a copy.
