I don't know if I've said this before, but you've committed yourself to anachronism before you've even begun (Blue Velvet being the first example of what we now know to call a "David Lynch film")cafeman wrote:It looks like a film made by a very intelligent person trying to make a David Lynch movie.

From the Bergen International Film Festival Program:
As I had seen the cooking show and LYNCH2 I skipped this, but his interview project sounds interesting. Perhaps this is the content on the Lime Green Set´s mystery disc?BIFF is proud to present the world premiere of David Lynch's latest project!
DAVID LYNCH – ONE NIGHT STAND is a presentation of new projects by David Lynch. Producer Jon Nguyen, who will be introducing the event, has put together a selection of rare material, of which one (INTERVIEW PROJECT) is a world premiere.
INTERVIEW PROJECT is a collection of interviews with completely unknown people put together by Lynch and Co. to evoke a decidedly lynchian atmosphere.
DAVID LYNCH'S COOKING SHOW: ... is just what it sounds like. In other words, like nothing you've ever seen before.
LYNCH2: The follow-up to LYNCH which was screened at last year's festival.

A film that gives you a rare glimpse into the fascinating mind of the man who created such visionary classics as Eraserhead, Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks, Wild at Heart, The Elephant Man and more... Compiled from over two years of footage, the film is an intimate portrait of Lynch's creative process as he completes his latest film, INLAND EMPIRE. We are with him as he discovers the beauty in ideas, leading us on a journey through the abstract which ultimately unveils his cinematic vision.

Just watched Quinoa on YouTube -- hadn't heard of it before.
I can't believe he cooks his quinoa for 53 minutes. I do mine for 15 minutes on the stovetop plus 5 minutes cooling time, even less time with a pressure cooker of course. I wonder where he got this 53 minutes idea -- an excuse for extremely long smoke breaks, maybe?

Re: David Lynch
Lynch stuff I've seen and loved: Twin Peaks, Eraserhead
Lynch stuff I've seen and liked but need to see again: Blue Velvet
Now, would it be a bad idea to see Inland Empire as my next foray into the man's work? I ask because it's available at my local library.
(and what the hell's up with the forum, is there a thread about that somewhere?)

Re: David Lynch
It is closer in style to his later work and incorporates a number of references to Lynch's catalogue, but it won't hurt to watch it.
I say go for it. But remember that it operates in a way different to the rest of his work.

Re: David Lynch
Normally I'd suggest seeing Lost Highway or Mulholland Drive first. Inland empire is just too much for a lot of people. But, thinking about it, perhaps it'd be interesting to watch it before most of his other work. So long as you understand that there are people who really love most Lynch films who hate it, so don't let it put you off watching anything else he's made. Make it a double-bill with a second viewing of Eraserhead.
(There was a board-update thread. Now that everything's updated (and is jolly speedy from where I'm sitting), I guess there isn't any more.)

Re: David Lynch
The biggest problem with INLAND EMPIRE is the fact that it strays from traditional Lynchian filmmaking. Lynch utilizes rich colors and dreamlike flare in his films. INLAND EMPIRE is shot on a DV CAM! Those colors are a lot more washed out and the film does seem like he is "toying" with the camera and having fun with it.
In perspective, I see the film as a B-Side for only true Lynch fans.

I don't think it takes a genius to realize what sort of Lynch films I was referring to.Mr_sausage wrote:I agree. I agree with him 90% on the laptop thing. Some monitors nowadays are larger then Teevees though and the sound quality is light years beyond 8-bit.

Re: David Lynch
I enjoy watching films on my Macbook Pro. The quality is great, and I feel closer to the film than watching it from a couch.
Lynch has always been very picky about how his films are viewed though. Mulholland Dr. was sent out to theaters with a manual and the INLAND EMPIRE DVD has a color calibration tool for the film.
I dig his style.

What an awful Q&A. There's a difference between asking a stupid question and asking a question you know is stupid before you ask it, just to be cute. Ugh. Melting clocks.
