OH

MY

GOD

Those are real covers? November is the last nail in the coffin of Criterion's worst year in recent memory. What a horrible horrible joke.

I can't believe these aren't fan covers

Chungking Express and the Spy Who Came in From the Cold are especially bad-- two minutes tops were spent on their design, and that's being generous.

This goes way beyond our normal fanboy bitching. These are genuinely inexcusable covers. If Wes and Eric Anderson wanted to make the cover for Bottle Rocket as horrible as it turned out, that is their choice. But someone deserves to be fired for the other three.

It really looks like they spent five minutes making that cover. What a truly dreary work. The banality of it is almost crushing.
Then they've really captured the spirit of what John La Carre was trying to do.

I guess no one directed the Spy Who Came In From the Cold

I'm thinking that this will be the cover that gets the most revisions, that being the main reason. #-o

The Bottle Rocket cover would be great if they just C+Ped the grass to cover all the figures on the bottom

They'd still have to solve the problem of having all that red against pink. It looks so unbelievably ugly.

I don't mind that. I will say this though: You know who is having a good month? Whoever designed the Fanfan cover, because the heat's off! Any other month and we'd be tearing it to shreds, but by virtue of its proximity, it's both horrible and the best cover of the month

The animation style still reaches The Polar Express levels of creepy, though.

I think it falls more into the "so bad it's good" category, particularly if you look really closely at Gérard Philipe's face.

Any confirmation on what color their BR cases will be? It'll be pretty terrible if they use the standard blue.

What are those sheets of painted wood that people stick their faces through at fairs and carnivals called? Because that's what this cover reminds me of most of all.

Say what you will about Swimminghorses' design skills - it's clear his hacker skills are first-rate. What other explanation could there be?

I wouldn't be surprised if there turns out to be some sort of sleeve over that Bottle Rocket cover, like there was for Tenenbaums and Life Aquatic.

I believe they only did that because of licensing agreements.

I completely disagree, I really like those two covers (especially by finally managing to do something appropriate with Chungking's wacky C)! Bottle Rocket fits the Eric Anderson style, even if I don't like it.

Fanfan La Tulipe is Viridiana-bad though.

I actually like the Spy cover, find it suiting, even if it's just a still. I'm obviously the only one, though.
