I doubt it. The Lean and Hitchcock boxes never came out because MGM didn't have the rights to the films. There were 5 Lean films in that set that are not currently on criterion dvd : Blithe Spirit, In Which We Serve, The Passionate Friends, This Happy Breed, Madeline.domino harvey wrote:So I guess three David Lean titles are the MGM titles alluded to earlier? The clue for the MGM titles also said that they would be all colour films and these are black and white.

Alongside Brief Encounter, Great Expectations, Oliver Twist, The Sound Barrier and Hobson's Choice, these five have just been restored by the BFI & David Lean Foundation. Perhaps Criterion are planning to issue transfers of the new restorations? If this is a Criterion set, I'd expect upgrades of the problematic Dickens discs. (Brief Encounter is fine as is, isn't it?). If this were just the 'lesser,' currently unavailable Leans, that sounds more like Eclipse to me (which I'd probably prefer, personally - they might be scraping the barrel to get extras for all of those films).Cinephrenic wrote:David Lean box - According to strong private academic source, Criterion is working on a David Lean set, no details on the contents, but the former four non-anamorphic Criterion are likely to get re-issued (Summertime, A Brief Encounter, Great Expectations, Oliver Twist), the Janus controlled Hobson's Choice, and perhaps other unknown possibilities from from the previous MGM set that didn't make it. I'm curious; who owns the home video rights to the three former Criterion Hitchcocks? My Spellbound and Notorious are in good shape, but my Rebecca was irreparably scratched, so I'm hoping for a re-release.ianungstad wrote:I doubt it. Lionsgate just put this out, so maybe Criterion wouldn't get this one. On the other hand who really knows, some of these Studio Canal deals are a little Byzantine - Lionsgate also put out Breathless in a Godard box just months before Criterion did theirs, and they're both available.foggy eyes wrote:The Sound Barrier
