It was made in 1995 by the director of The Best of Youth and has Mrs. Benigni in the cast.

Yeah, let's not start this talk again. Blu-ray exclusives don't make any financial sense and Criterion did everything they could in their splashy Blu-ray announcement to discourage people from thinking otherwise.domino harvey wrote:Why would Criterion pool resources on a release they could only put out on the limited scope Blu format? So was Days of Heaven.Antoine Doinel wrote:I'm guessing this will be on BluRay (exclusive?) since Paramount's DVD has been out forever, and it is a solid transfer.
Criterion acquired this slate of Paramount titles long before the format war was over and Criterion had committed to Blu-ray. None of their Paramount acquisitions have been announced for Blu so far. It's possible that their contract with Paramount precludes that possibility.

More people already own the book than the Paramount disc. Besides, it's just not rare enough to include. The only justification for this release is an interview or commentary with John le Carre or a good doc on the Cold War.Gigi M. wrote:They better. I'm thrilled about the release, and can't wait to see what supplements Criterion has come up with. I paid well under $10 for the Paramount disc, so that's no big loss.
Before too many people complain about a lack of surprise in this month's hint, remember that just last month Criterion casually dropped the news that three titles that nobody here was expecting (Chungking Express, El Norte, Walkabout redux) would be out later this fall. They could have just told us that Blu-ray was coming and saved those titles for newsletter hints. That Rosselini Eclipse set was a big surprise too.

I'm betting that the BBC doc John Le Carré: The Secret Centre, in which Le Carré discusses his career as a spy for the first time is a safe bet for inclusion.kaujot wrote:I'm desperately hoping for some le Carre involvement.
