Did you see the mock up we did in the MOC Cover Art Thread? Just use a high-quality screengrab to replicate the image used.

Screengrabs are 72dpi and thus pretty noticeable when blown to 300dpi and in your hand, would prefer to locate a batch of hi-res production stills (and they would help with the booklet too, etc).

The Cahiers disc uses stills on its cover which are presumably of a higher resolution, have you tried finding out where they got them from?
And although I'm sure BFI stills is something you've already looked into, the Georges Franju (French Film Directors) book by Kate Ince has stills listed for Judex and Nuits Rouges, courtesy of BFI stills, Posters and Designs.

What about commissioning original artwork? I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who'd love the opportunity to get some exposure and probably wouldn't cost you too much.

Maybe the poster fags holding those hi-rent jobs on ebay might do a solid with a hi-res scan for their own little stipple into the books.

When I posted the first cover I almost wrote, nice but Nuits Rouge is being dismissed. But hesitated, glad I did as I love this cover. Though I'm a little unsure about the red banner. How will these covers work together though since they're on one release?

YEEEP! "Judex" looks great now!
I would suppose that the covers will be handled a la the Mizoguchi sets, with "Nuits rouges" printed on the inlay, so that you can switch them if you like. That way there wouldn't be any problem with the red banner.

Fantastic - such an improvement! Thanks so much to Nick for taking our various complaints into consideration and changing it!
And yes, even though it's unclear exactly how these two covers will work together, I'm just happy that the Nuits Rouges poster design is featured somewhere!

I think that the Judex cover is brilliant. I didn't know anything about this film, until i saw that cover. The cover art with the "birdman" appealed so much to me, that i had to read about the movie and it's director. Judex/Nuits Rouges ended up on my wishlist.

This did not happen with the first cover

I don't know if this comment belongs to this thread, but here we go anyway...

I'm having problems with my Chikamatsu/Uwasa DVD-case. Each time I open the cover the upper one of discs tends to jump out of its place. The reason is most likely that the thick DVD-booklet is pressing the release button in the middle of the DVD when the case is shut. It's quite annoying and I'm afraid that the disc might get scratches on it.

So, I would sincerely hope that MoC would in future release 2-disc sets in different cases. For example the ones Criterion used earlier (L'Eclisse, Mamma Roma, L'Avventura) are just perfect.

The box is encased in a semi transparent plastic cover which makes the image shimmer like silver.

I liked that cover... but this is a whole different level of great. Hats off!

I find it looks wonderful, and I bet this an original poster from the late 20s. But I have to agree with David: that Carlotta design is one of the most beautiful I've ever come across. And the shimmering of course nicely fits the allure of l'argent...
