I watched Mafioso last night and have to admit the cover turned from one I disliked to actually loving it. It captures two very important things from the plot: the black hat (making him Sicilian again) and the golden heart (the item that makes him connect with the mafia). Good job Criterion!

The soldier is transparent? As far as I can tell, the red circle is transparent and in front of the soldier, not the other way around.

Thematic colors changed also on these covers. The new Polly Magoo got a great pic, but I can't tell about Model Couple. The original certainly have something more "delirious" about it. Presence of the original posters in the small pics is a great touch I think.

The others don't suffer nearly as much. I think part of it is the horrendous yellow of the sidebar.
On another note, whilst I like the High and Low cover, I hate how the wacky-C keeps interfering with either text or design elements on many of the covers.
The High and Low bullseye looks more like some sort of pulsating vibrations or waves. I keep waiting on Mifune to pull the phone back away from his ear.
okay, so all of those titles are amazing... I'm especially amazed with the High & Low cover (it almost makes me want to buy the film, even though I've never seen it)
The Vampyr cover, too, may well be one of the most elegant covers in the recent past.
I think we can all agree that Criterion's art department really knocked it out of the park this month. Love all of them, and especially "Vampyr" and "Trafic."
Not that I want to take the contrarian view, but Vampyr looks a bit too much like a bad metal t-shirt to me (perhaps it's the font and scythe silhouette). MoC's cover was genuinely elegant. Trafic and High and Low, however, are incredibly striking - bold decisions that really pay off.
