From a recent interview with Coppola:
And a little bit from a user on IMDB:"It's [Tetro's] the name of a character. It's very personal, kind of my Tennessee Williams period," he says. "I want to make a passionate story about brothers and fathers and all of that different tumult that I've seen at different times in my life — a little bit stuff I've seen in my family, but it's totally fictional."
Matt Dillon was very good in The Outsiders and Rumble Fish and it would've been interesting to see them working together again. What that said, I do look forward to hearing who the replacement is. Although the source is questionable, according to IMDB composer Osvaldo Golijov and cinematographer Mihai Malaimare are back on board (both also worked on Youth Without Youth).I heard an interview with Coppola this past week on NPR and he said that Matt Dillon, who was previously announced as lead, is definitely out. He said it's because of a scheduling conflict. The film was supposed to start shooting already but because Coppola is promoting Youth Without Youth he had to postpone the beginning of the shoot for Tetro. He said that the replacement and the rest of the cast should be announced soon (I have heard Maribel Verdu, Javier Bardem and Rodrigo de la Serna are all possibilities).
