I'm referring to the title specifically, but you raise a good point.

The poster looks nice, although anyone planning on going to the theater and seeing Harrison Ford look that chiseled is in for a major disappointment. It at least makes me feel like this will at worst just be pure fanboy pandering instead of Lucas finding new and innovative ways to fuck up.

The titles of the previous films were lovably ridiculous. Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Temple of Doom, The Last Crusade... They capture the adventure matinée feel very well. The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is the odd one out as it's way too specific, which has the added effect of making the title unnecessarily long.

Hold on a minute, though... Indy fighting the Soviets?! That just isn't right... :(

Interesting observation --- the acronym of the title is KOCS.

Troublesome thought....what if at the end of the film Indy gives LaBoeuf his own hat and whip and then the franchise lives on as the "New" Indiana Jones adventures, with young hip kid you the teenagers come out to see. Indy turns into teen romance and fart and dick jokes. Then the inevitable Indy Jones and The Dukes of Hazzard County. Michael Bay could direct. And then of course Indy X where he's a stowaway on a space ship or something like that. Oh, and Indy vs. Predator. That's a good one. We're talking about Paramont here, people. They tried to make a Godfather movie without Coppola or Puzo, so don't put anything past them.

Or even worse, maybe Paramount is already planning the DVD release of INDIANA JONES AND THE KOCS - UNRATED AND WHIPPED EDITION!

Conversation overheard while waiting in line at the movies the other day:

(Five year old girl runs up to look at IJ4 Poster)
Girl: Look it's Harrison Ford
Mom: That can't be Harrison Ford
Girl: It's Harrison Ford.
Mom: (Long pause) Why?

I think if all of America has the same reaction there might be hope yet. And did I know who Harrison Ford was when I was five years old?

Well, that scenario will certainly help sell more Lego sets.

This movie could potentially spawn as many bad, "KOCS," jokes as Walk Hard had with its, "Cox," jokes.

This Variety feature goes into some depth on Spielberg, Lucas, and the new film. There are even some pretty huge spoilers on pages 4-5 of the article, which, if anything could make me look forward to this film less, those actually did it. If this movie is even remotely about what this article says it's about, it will be the laughingstock of the year.

Here be spoilers:
Spoiler
I looked around and I said, ‘Well, maybe we shouldn't do a 30s serial, because now we're in the 50s. What is the same kind of cheesy-entertainment action movie, what was the secret B movie, of the 50s?' So instead of doing a 30s Republic serial, we're doing a B science-fiction movie from the 50s. The ones I'm talking about are, like, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Blob, The Thing. So by putting it in that context, it gave me a way of approaching the whole thing.â€

Why? In all honesty, I guess I just don't get the antipathy for this idea. I mean why not this? Is it really that much more ridiculous than the other three? Come on. Please explain this to me and feel free to use "inviso-text" if you find it necessary.

I actually dig the idea because it feels to me like somebody (Lucas, in this case, for once) actually considered the implications of the project both practically and aesthetically. They're trying to accommodate Ford's age and they wind up in a certain time period by doing so. That time period produced a different variation on the models they were using in the past. This allows them a terrific liberating opportunity to both return to the well (by following the central character's continuity--he's a personality or presence constructed by a different period's expectations) and to place that familiar central personality in an altered aesthetic context which will place different demands upon him. It sounds to me like a fascinating meta-experiment; I'd think you'd all love it!

I don't know. We already knew it was going to be bad, so maybe, just maybe, this will push the movie into GOOD bad territory. On second thought, no it won't, we're fucked.

Maybe you missed the part where Lucas said there were magical beings in the skulls?

If it's not even trying poorly ape a movie serial-- the only reason for watching any of the other films to begin with-- the movie has even less reason to exist than it did before this bombshell dropped.

Since when did the writers of the X-Files get singularly credited with the oh so unique alien theories surrounding Area 51?

Quoting George Lucas from his interview: [quote]Because it's one of those things like, we didn't have to do it. Steven knew as well as I did, because by the time we really got down to the end, I'd already done the pent-up-expectation movie, which was Phantom Menace, and I said, “You know, we're not going to win on this—at all. We live in a new world now. Critics will hate it. The fans will hate it. But it'll probably do wellâ€

At least no one can say that Lucas isn't honest.
