I presume the Imamura is the Criterion? The Antonioni looks like 1.85 (good) but is it anamorphic or letterboxed? It looks much better than the Pox Lorber and also much better than the R4. Where is it from?
The Imamura is indeed the Criterion release. The Antonioni is letterboxed. Funny that you say it looks better than the Fox Lorber release because I thought that was what it was. It's been quite some time since I made these captures - unfortunately I can't remember! If it helps any, I received the film from Netflix.

I have seen Tomu's first Musashi film and "Beautiful Yoshiwara..." two years ago in Cologne and was delighted. I never dared to look, if there were Japanese DVDs, just to avoid the disappointment, that no one released the movie in a subtitled version. But here you come and I see that some of his films are available since 2002 already. I hope one of these gets released with English subtitles soon.
Michael, do you also own one of the Musashi DVDs? The print I've seen was 16mm hence blurry.
All caps from DVD Beaver except the third, that is from a new scandinavian release (no english subs).
Bandai (chinese bootleg)
Miramax R1
Njuta
MIA R2
Panorama
What can I say? MIA and Panorama are downright awful. Miramax (Beavers choice for best image) sharp but saturated and reddish (not only the skintones). The chinese bootleg, supposedly very close to the japanese Bandai "original", looks very "Floating Weeds-blue". Njuta on the other hand looks like it's taken from Traffic's "south-of-the-border" sequence.

Picturewise this looks like an ok substitute for the OOP Anchor Bay disc, eh? Or does anyone know about any possibilities for a new release in the US/R1? Does this Brit disc have any other extras, since I recall the AB disc had more than just a commentary?

The R1 also has a trailer and a doc by George Hickenlooper 'Monte Hellman:American Auteur'
Following now are screenshots from the new Godard Vol. 1 Box Set. It is packaged in a very nice digipack, includes interesting (albeit a bit short) introductions by Colin MacCabe and seems altogether adorable. First up is BREATHLESS:
