Filmmaker Magazine already confirmed a French New Wave Eclipse set. Matt Lipson already confirmed Breathless.

Well what titles could possible be in the New Wave Eclipse set?

Maybe they'll package them together. Then they can get Tarantino to talk about why the remake was so good... then I'd vomit with rage.

Here here on that last remark... Particularly the end bit.

But rage-vomit is the hardest to mop!

That was the funniest thing I've read in a while. Thanks.

Yes tasteless, and in fact Seberg led a fraught and tragically short life despite such early promise... Miscarriages, alcoholism, drug addiction, mental health problems and several abusive marriages led to her early death in August 1979 in Paris from an overdose of barbiturates and alcohol when she was aged just 40...

Maybe "Paris nous appartient", "Le Signe du lion"... and I got nothing else.

Narshty wrote:It sounds like Breathless plus Eclipse's "New Wave" set that was recently mentioned. One of the extras for Breathless is bound to be the 80-minute Chambre 12, Hotel de Suede documentary that's on the upcoming Optimum UK Godard boxset.
If Hell freezes over in the next couple of months, we might also get Mark Rappaport's wonderful From the Journals of Jean Seberg. But I doubt that's a film we'll ever see on DVD.

This film was actually released on R1 DVD by Image Entertainment in the early days of the format (late '97/early '98).

I think everybody on this forum either has a copy or knows that or in the process of burning and retreaving the ashes so they can be sent to Lorber.

It's DAYS OF HEAVEN. Awesome news. This Paramount deal is yielding an embarrassment of riches.

My first guess too-- if so it will be interesting to see if Malick participates in any of the extra material.

Malick in the Criterion Collection? I am very excited. I hope he is involved in the extras!

It also seems that Van Sant's La Mala Noche could get a Criterion release in the future.

This would explain why Plexi Film's long delayed plans to release it never happened. I think they announced it as "coming soon" for over 5 years now. Also, MK2 released a Region 2 in 2005.

This is some great news. I was so excited when I read the newsletter. I love Malick, and now Criterion will have the rights to 25% of his ouvre.
Mala Noche, too, is good news (as I have missed several screening opportunities over the last five or six years here in P-town due to idiocy or bad timing)... maybe they'll get lucky and get Paranoid Park, too!

Mala Noche is definitely coming. A restored, Janus print just premiered at the IFC Film Center in New York last week and will be making the rounds across the country over the next few months.

Most likely because Days of Heaven was shot by Almendros primarily at magic hour (the short period between the sun hitting the horizon and disappearing).

Berlin Alexanderplatz. Night on Earth. And now, hopefully, Days of Heaven? Very happy now! Soooo... could My Dinner With Andre or Nashville or even The Long Goodbye be along soon? Would be choice!
