I'm pretty sure that paper is dead. Jean Seberg's character in Breathless sells it along the Champs-Elysees, which is where the reference would come from.Cinephrenic wrote:Somebody in New York get reading please!!!
Is there a website?

i took this as a joke. That said, this line (NEW YORK HERALD TRIBUNE!!!) was quite annoying to my special lady and I when we watched Breathless and it is the one thing we quote from it when we are reminded of the film.Cinephrenic wrote:Somebody in New York get reading please!!!

Also,

And this might be released at the same time:BREATHLESS (1960, Jean-Luc Godard) - Criterion's email: "We do in fact hold the rights to release Breathless. While the film is not on our current release schedule, we hope to have a finished product available some time next year (2007)"
There is going to be a shit load of extras for sure on Breathless. Supervision with Raoul Coutard. A nice digipak for sure.PIERROT LE FOU (1965, Godard) - Rialto says Criterion has the rights, appeared with Janus credits at retrospective. UPDATE: Turrell says this is getting a release in 2007 according to member email.

Likewise, I'm not sure about whether or not the NY Herald-Tribune has changed its name, but from living in the NY area I can confirm that there isn't any current paper by that name.Rich Malloy wrote:I don't know for sure, but I think the NY Herald-Tribune is what we know now as the International Herald-Tribune.
So it's Breathless for sure (I suppose it could have been The Dreamers, but Criterion wouldn't be able to get their hands on that one for a loooong time, if ever).

It looks like the New York Herald and the International Herald-Tribune are indeed related

Regarding Breathless being released in a new wave boxset, I don't see how it would happen. The film doesn't really fit the criteria for the Eclipse series at all. I mean it's designed to release "lost, forgotten, or overshadowed classics" and Breathless is a pretty well known and canonized film last time I checked.
Unless of course, it is implied that it would be correspondingly released under Criterion at the same time as a new wave boxset would be released by Eclipse. That would be pretty cool.

the second one is what I and the other poster surely meant.sidehacker wrote:Regarding Breathless being released in a new wave boxset, I don't see how it would happen. I imagine the "New Wave" reference is just pointing to Breathless as well, since it is the defining film of that movement.
It's Breathless, kids. Just Breathless. Very clearly and obviously Breathless. Anyone who saw the phrase "New York Herald-Tribune" and didn't immediately picture it plastered across Jean Seberg's tits should have their forum membership revoked.
