No Rublev hint here either... :( Hopefully the re-release of Andrei Rublev can happen before the year's end.

I can't get beyond thoughts of "The Carol Burnett Show" or even Bobby Darin's show.

The only Brecht reference I can find on Mack the Knife is directed by Menahem Golan.

Sure didn't see The Threepenny Opera coming. Good elements for this film are pretty scarce, to the best of my knowledge, so this could be a real event.

As for Tokyo Olympiad going OOP, it's a great film in a great edition, so snap it up if you don't have it. I have nil interest in the Olympics per se, but I still find Ichikawa's film rivetting.

Agreed. I admittedly had zero interest in the film, only became marginally interested when Criterion released it on DVD, finally got around to seeing it and immediately picked it up. Sports documentaries do little for me but this is one of the DVDs I've viewed the most in my collection.

Just a little follow-up on all those contests:

I actually won the Eclipse contest (the one about the guy who was in four of the five titles in Eclipse 1), so I get my choice of any Bergman title in the catalog. I don't own it yet, so I decided to snap up "Wild Strawberries." Looking at the choices now, maybe I should've chosen the Bergman box set (Winter Light, The Silence, etc.), but I kinda doubt Criterion would've let me choose a box set.

Anyway, this is my chance to gloat, yes. But it's also a way of saying that people do win these contests, so keep trying in the future!

Here's how stupid I was... I saw the quote "Mackie's back in town" and thought, "Is Criterion really gonna do a Bob Mackie movie?" (facepalm)

Or maybe a boxset of Bob Mackie costumed films, housed in an authentic Mackie dvd box created exclusively for Criterion! :)

And congratulations!

"Now, as part of a promotion with DVD Planet, if you purchase all three of these Criterion titles—F for Fake, The Honeymoon Killers, and General Idi Amin Dada—you'll also receive another original: your very own Criterion cap, absolutely free."

Really? I can hardly contain my indifference.

I received a free Criterion cap from them when they messed up my Janus t-shirt order (took them two months to re-stock one of the sizes, they felt bad). Plus I already own F For Fake and The Honeymoon Killers so I think I'm good.
