Speaking of Lee Van Cleef, the Sabata trilogy (yeah yeah, I know he was only in two of them) are some of my all-time favorites, although I'm sure they're a little wacky for some peoples' taste. Where else are you going to see a rifle disguised as a banjo?

I'll just keep my R2 discs. MGM/Fox is dropping the DTS tracks and not adding the original mono tracks to any of the films. oh well....

Someone on another forum says that early copies of the box set have surfaced in some stories, and the packaging is listing mono tracks for all films except GBU. I haven't seen any early reviews on the discs themselves to confirm that this is true.

dvdbeaver can confirm the mono track on DUCK,
as for the back cover of the boxset, they mention mono on the 3 movies besides GOOD.

I don't think I'll be buying them again for better mono tracks and better subtitles.

So, just to clarify: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly R1 SE does not have the original mono? I was hoping that the 160-minute cut would have been included with mono and a new HD-sourced transfer - as eveyone was. I hope that the 160-minute cut doesn't fall into limbo in the years ahead.

DVD Savant answers your question.

The thing may be worth picking up, but it encourages the bad behavior we saw on the GBU discs. Also, any word on how the packaging works? Are all the boxes like the original GBU two disc?

The single-movie editions are packaged in white Amray cases with cardboard sleeves over them, and the booklets are the same (long) style as the GBU 2-disc. Classy looking and much more practical than the GBU box.

I only bought Duck, You Sucker, but after seeing how nice the box set is I think I may have to pick it up.

Anyone know if Costco got the boxset? It seems that no one else has it on sale this week, so I'm thinking that if Costco got it they will have it for a good price.

This boxset does seem pretty expensive (not that it's not worth it), the lowest I've seen it for has been $65 and the list is $90. Heck, the individual movies sell for around $25.

Well, it's under $50 at DDD with the current 20% off sale...

Will wait for the boxset to drop in price, as it inevitably will. Or perhaps for the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray release... This will be my third dip on DUCK YOU SUCKER although I'm looking forward to it, to finally have the restored picture + final flashback + mono sound + (for the first time) Duck You Sucker written on the cover!

I'm still a bit concerned about the sound, though... There is a definite discrepancy in a few places between the old mono track and the 5.1 restoration of a couple of years ago. I don't care what "John Kirk" says. Am hoping this new mono track is indeed the original and not some mono-ified version of the 5.1 (as with the dubious Once Upon a Time in the West mono track).

That final flashback turns the movie upside down. I love it.
