i was looking at possibly purchasing their new releases during the DVDPlanet 20% off sale but could not find any info on new releases, other than the new film about Mussolini, which didn't look all that interesting too me.

I did pickup a few others, I hope this label is doing alright because they've released some real gems.

because of other items in my order that are being acquired, I haven't received the two unannounced releases yet, but reviews of them on other sites are quite positive. I sent an email asking what was up, but got no reply. I am back from Vancouver and heading out to Florida on Saturday, so I have a lot to take care of, but I'll see if I can give them a call sometime on thursday to get some answers.

I got an email response from Ryko regarding noshame.

question:

Has anything happened to noshame films? I was wondering because they haven't released anything in awhile and their website hasn't been updated since late last year. I've tried emailing twice, but all I got was an automated reply.

well, It's nice to hear, but I really want to know whats in the pipeline... Atleast its not costing me anything to keep buying every one of their releases right now

I just watched Love & Anger tonight. Man, wasn't ANYONE besides Godard capable of making a halfway decent political statement in films in the late 60s? This was basically four of the worst shorts I have ever seen, plus Godard's which, while decidedly a pretty minor entry in his filmography, was at least interesting, well-shot, and contained some worthwhile ideas -- way more than could be said for any of the other four. I swear, if I hadn't seen The Conformist already I'd never watch another Bertolucci film again after this. Nice job to NoShame on the transfer, though.

oh yeah, Love and Anger is absolute shit, but the extras are marvellous. As far as the films go, NoShame's best releases are their non-exploitation releases, but I've enjoyed every film they've released (with the exception of love and anger).

Slightly off subject, but I have only seen the Martino DVD's from No Shame and I have been very surprised of the quality on the picture of many of them. I plan on exploring more from them soon.

Admittedly, I like the Anger parts more.

The Bertolucci short is fabulous. Pasolini's is lyrical. That's enough to justify the whole thing.

I will revisit it at some point, but my first viewing was dreadful. and ouatitw, the martino's are a good example of what this company is capable of, but they really have brought the best to the table on every release so far. The only thing I hink one could be disappointed with is that they put their 1.66:1 releases out in non anamorphic presentations, but they still look exceptional.

That would be an incorrect statement! The reason their TV-titles, Uno Bianca, etc...were released as non-16/9 is because the Italian prints were such. I can assure you that if it comes down to a classic film, giallo, being in an aspect ratio of 1.66:1 anamorphic enhancement will be applied.

but just because they are made for TV doesn't mean that their 1.66:1 is different than anothers. I guess what you're saying is that Noshame didnt make their own transfers for the TV releases, as I do see that when they mastered Boccacio 70, it was in 1.66:1 and anamorphic. so to rephrase, my only disappointment is that they dont make all their own transfers, especially when the one provided is not the optimal way of presenting the film.

Their most recent release was actually never even mentioned on their website.

In November they released "Giovannona Long-Thigh", "Last Days of Mussolini" and "Ubalda, All Naked and Warm"

I recently imported NoShame Italia's, The Perfume of the Lady in Black (1974), a superior Giallo that features stunning primary color cinematography. It's an absorbing story with a very good central performance by Mimsy Farmer. The transfer is almost too good for a 1974 film and the Italian and English dubs are both included with optional English subs. Well worth acquiring if you are a fan of Giallos.

Noshame is pretty much dead when it comes to R1 releases, which is a real shame, as I have every dvd in their catalogue. please tell me, where can I see a list of what they have released in Italy?

I wonder if they are changing distributors. Fantoma switched from Image and Mondo Macabro recently switched from Ryko Distribution to Caroline Distribution. Maybe NoShame is following in their footsteps.
