Get a load of this! Titles being released on 6/26 -

Attack of the 50 Foot Woman
The Big Cube
Caged
The Colossus of Rhodes
The Giant Behemoth
Hot Rods to Hell
Land of the Pharoahs
The Prodigal
Queen of Outer Space

The Laser's Edge has a preview of cover artwork for all these titles. I've said my peace. Now let's turn this into "why they are not releasing such and such title?"!

Colossus of Rhodes is an early Sergio "Spaghetti Western" Leone that should at least warrant a rental, I think.

According to The Digital Bits, these are also being released as box sets.

Warner has also announced a number of great catalog classics for release on 6/26, including a Cult Camp Classics: Volume 1 - Sci Fi Thrillers (Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman (1958), Giant Behemoth and Queen of Outer Space), Cult Camp Classics: Volume 2 - Women in Peril (The Big Cube, Caged and Trog), Cult Camp Classics: Volume 3 - Terrorized Travelers (Hot Rods to Hell, Skyjacked and Zero Hour) and Cult Camp Classics: Volume 4 - Historical Epics (Colossus of Rhodes, The Prodigal and Land of the Pharoahs). Each of the sets carries an SRP of $29.98, and the films will be available separately for $14.97 each.

I'm still having a bit of trouble putting Land of the Pharaohs in the Cult Classic category, although I haven't seen it in many years. I do remember (I think) that it was narrated by James Robertson Justice, over an excellent music score by Dimitri Tiompkin, and they teamed up again a few years later for Guns of Navarone.

Saw it at DVD Savant:

From the Classic Horror Film Board, Tom Weaver has leaked that the Volume One set will all have commentaries: "... some well-known FX guys-fans on Behemoth, Yvette Vickers and Weaver on 50 Foot Woman, and Laurie (The Queen) Mitchell and Weaver on Queen of Outer Space."

Caged is actually the first 'modern' women-in-prison exploitation film, following the doomed girl/reform school stories of the silent and early sound age. Preachiness turns to oversexed exploitation, and I am so there.

(Many of the others sound great too, this is going to be good summer fare.)
