If Giant is the same as the already released special edition, I understood that it was not anamorphic. That's what has kept me from purchasing it.

I guess that will still be the case in the box set.

I'm quite happy with the transfer on my old Rebel Without a Cause DVD. I wonder if the new one will look even better. I almost never buy a newer version of a DVD just to get more extras.

Someone mentioned in another thread the "fascism" of having to buy a box (Universal Gary Cooper set) just to get one title (DESIGN FOR LIVING.) There's a bit of that operating here with the "Controversial" set - Who wants to share FURY and ADVISE AND CONSENT with stuff like FACE IN THE CROWD, etc. Like mixing Lang with Stanley Kramer! Or will Warners also release the titles individually?

A Face in the Crowd is a film much admired in some circles. I'm looking forward to seeing it....

Awful box art again, but I'll buy it for To Be or Not To Be, Philadelphia Story and Bringing Up Baby. I'll probably watch the others once and sell them off, which'll be cheaper than renting them. No words yet on the extra's for the 1-disc editions.

Has anybody got or seen the Classic Comedies boxset? Amazon does not have it in stock at the moment (and Paly in the UK does not list it), which is strange.

I've ordered it from DVDPacific, which still seems to have it. I haven't personally laid my eyes on it, though. And Gary Tooze seems to have seen the new DVD's, so I don't think it's been delayed or anything.

Yes Amazon got the individual films in stock, but not the box set (not that I care about the box itself, but it's a much better deal).

My should be in my mailbox today from dvdempire. I saw Bringing Up Baby yesterday at Hastings.

I've had the set on preorder from Amazon.com for a month or so, and even though the order reads "estimated despatch date - 02 March" (ie, yesterday) it still shows no signs of shipping. Curious.

I had the same issue, so I e-mailed amazon yesterday and got a response last night saying their stock was low, but they hoped to have it delivered by Monday. They also gave me a $10 credit on my next purchase. I just checked my account, and it's listed as "shipping soon," which usually means the next day.

Good to know there's $10 in it for me if I complain.

i received mine on monday via the u.s. one stop that i order from for work.

I bought the box today from a local video store (Waterloo Video) because I didn't want to wait on Amazon. So far I have seen Stage Door and I was extremely impressed with the quality. A few tiny glitches and skips but for an RKO print, it was quite clean. My VHS copy had been so crummy that you could hardly tell who was who.

I did notice a small insert near the end with a graveyard, which I hadn't ever seen before. I wonder if I just saw badly cut prints, or if I don't remember seeing it, or if this is something Warner found. Interesting.

The box itself is a bit flimsy and I may just toss it.

(OT, but shouldn't this thread, like, be moved to the Warners General Discussion area? Just a thought...)

A graveyard 'insert'?!?!?!?! Do you mean an actual scene, or what? I need more details here!!! I wish I wasn't broke so I could run out and buy this to check it out; Stage Door is one of my favorite movies and I've watched the tape over a dozen times....
