Wow, Nothing Sacred looks pretty damn good for a public domain title. Is that the best transfer out there? I had not even heard of this film until I looked at this thread and it sounds very interesting, so cheers, dadaistnun! :D It was shot in three-strip Technicolor and released in dye-transfer, right? But this transfer is from one of the Cinecolor dupes that was also released, yes, hence the "Photographed in COLOR" credit?

I'm going to Rome for 1st time in 8 days. Please, may be this is not the thread but I don't know where to post it, does anybody know where to buy DVDs in Rome? I mean, a good store with stock. I'm looking for Il federale, Lamerica, Malena 2 discs and other old Italian releases. I know there's a Fnac but it's so fucking far that I'm afraid I will not have enough time to go there.

That Kapo new dvd, I'm going to buy it.

I cannot say how impossible it is to adequately manage screencaps - literally every important establishing shot is the beginning of a complex and multidimensional travelling shot and no sinlge image can come anywhere near revealing the density of detail for each continuous image.

Boom! (1968) DVI/Universal R4

It may be anamorphic but it sure aint progressive. The ghosting makes Secret Ceremony look like HD!

Alice in the Cities
I bought the german Arthaus Collection version of Alice in the Cities, its really bad. I guess its pretty much the same bad quality like the R4. But look at the green line on the left side of the frame (its there the whole movie). You cant see it on TV-sets with overscan, but this is pathetic. I would not mind the scratches but there is alot of mosquito noise, its really disturbing.
I havent checked the other version from Kinowelt, which is more expensive, but our local library has got it. i'll probably have a look on it sooner or later.

Sacha Guitry - Né pour séduire.

A curious collection of mostly non-fictional material (available for the first time for the public) showing some of Guitry's more personal moments captured on film...
... and some rather compromising political statements!

The films included in the box :
- Ceux de chez nous (2 versions, one of them with a commentary by Guitry)
- Film de famille
- Dîner de gala chez les Ambassadeurs
- De Jeanne d'Arc à Philippe Pétain
- Le Comédien (directed by Georges Lautner)

Contrary to the box with Sacha's feature films, there are no subs.

Ceux de chez nous (1915/1952) :

It's hard to believe, but this is even worse than the R2 of Charulata. A horrible transfer (from a video source, by the look of it), burnt-in subs, and ghosting everywhere. The Indian edition (from calcuttaweb.com) is better.

Prénom Carmen - from the Scandinavian Studio Canal/Universal Nordic 11-disc Godard Box, R2 PAL).

These screenshots should be comparable with the DVDBeaver screenshots (approx. the same frames, neutral Power DVD settings but probably not 100% identical setup):

Apart from the rather odd translation in the example, it looks quite good compared to earlier versions...
