Watch some backstage footage as well as a great little interview with Chan-wook
here.

Wow, I can't believe this has been online for almost 3 months now and I didn't know about it
Here's some
poster artwork, too
P.S. That interview
kind of spoils the ending of the film.

Hmm, I wonder if Chan-wook ever watched this
aussie exploitation flick before?

A handful of images from the film, and news that filming is on track to complete ahead of schedule for a proposed release in April.

That looks uncharacteristically serious. Very beautiful though.

One of the most anticipated movies of the year for me. That trailer looks very, very promising and I am already in love with the tiny taste of the soundtrack features in it.

Weird how a whole career can be so successfully launched off a single well-achieved, fairly exciting, utterly shallow tracking shot in a corridor.

Park's career launched after the massive returns and praise for
JSA: Joint Security Area.
Oldboy came two films after. He was pretty well established by the time his "shallow tracking shot" was filmed...

okay, perhaps 'launch a career' was poor use of terminology. he was ticking along just fine as a second rate asian genre director before this. however, it was certainly the moment he made a giant leap into both the mainstream consciousness and a strange arthouse credibility. when, arguably, of course, he has never ceased being the former.

Frankly, Crush and Blush is the best film Park's ever been associated with.

Jealousy Is My Middle Name was pretty good too.
And _I_ think I'm a Cyborg, But That's Okay is cute.

One person's "second rate asian genre director" is another's "mainstream" - or maybe vice-versa is more appropriate. Especially since he's been pretty mainstream in Korea, including during the entire Korean Wave period.

I agree.
I also enjoyed
Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (if "enjoyed" is the right word). And I plan to see
Thirst at the earliest possible chance. (
Crush and Blush is in the mail.)

Focus Features have picked up the US rights and will be releasing the film in mid-July.

This is fantastic news; not necessarily because I want to see this, but because I
really want to see the new Lars von Trier and Gaspar NoƩ movies, and while those may be hard to market, at least the fact that this picked up distribution gives me hope.

That looks awful. I wonder if the subtitles will be like that during the actual screenings.

I liked the trailer, but yeah, "extreme" subtitles seem to be the flavor of the month for American studios when releasing foreign films these days.

I kind of like the subtitles. Better than the yellow ones on the bottom of the screen.

Really? The only one I was aware of was Nightwatch. Name some others so I can get an idea of what they look like.

Weren't the subs on Slumdog a bit stylized? I sincerely doubt the ones on Thirst will be anything like this in the actual movie, though.

Man on Fire also had the wacky subs. I'm sure there are plenty of older examples.
