Lions Gate Home Entertainment has announced a Killer's Collector's Edition of American Psycho which stars Christian Bale, Willem Dafoe, Jared Leto and Josh Lucas. The disc will be available to own from the 21st June this year, priced at around $19.98. As well as a newly remastered anamorphic widescreen transfer and English Dolby Digital 5.1 EX track, the disc will include an audio commentary with the films director and writer, deleted scenes with an optional director audio commentary and three video essays entitled The 80ï¿½s: Downtown, American Psycho: From Book to Screen and The Pornography of Killing. Completing the package will be the original trailers.

Nice! It's about time... according to the box art DVDAnswers posted, it will be the unrated version.

So was the American theatrical release cut? The cover of this new edition says "Uncut Version", but the IMDb has no listings for alternate versions of the film. I wasn't aware that it was ever cut (the version submitted to the BBFC was passed with no cuts made). Does anyone know if there are two different versions, and what the differences are?

The extra footage is of Patrick flexing his muscles in a mirror while he's with the two prostitutes....that's it. Seems the american censors thought that too demeening to have on screen, the chainsaw through the midriff was o.k. Flexing is to dehumanizing during intercourse apparantly

Is that really all there is to it? I find that hard to believe, and the justification for the cut offered in the comment above doesn't sound plausible.

This scene was certainly in the version I saw (in the UK), and was one of the film's funniest moments. The most ingenious use of a Phil Collins song, too.

Just picked this up this morning -- it's a classy disc, well worth a double dip (although Lions Gate seems to be hell bent on playing up the fact that there's a chainsaw in the movie). The commentaries also illuminated certain ambiguities in scenes in this film that have bothered me for years now (not clarified, but rather illuminated their intent).

Pinback - no kidding, that's the only difference. The "Unrated Version" is only about 5 seconds longer but the MPAA, being the senseless morons that they are, demanded something be cut, and that was it.

The Lithgow cuts as a Mike Ovitz cipher are funny. They ran on cable at least once, along with Lithgow reading a letter before the film - from Martin to Lithgow, explaining why he was cut from the film.

I know what you mean.

Somehow you can see "the wheels turning" all the time on her acting, especially in this film, less in "All of Me"...and it's a little distracting and off-putting to the viewer.

What is she doing now ?

Does anyone know which other Alain Resnais titles Studio Canal owns besides Stavisky? If it's only one, does anyone else assume that Lionsgate will release a Belmondo box set similar to their Bardot box?

Right now my biggest beef with Lionsgate is the lack of action over their broken Artisan catalogue, comprised mostly of unwatchable transfers for decent movies. The King of New York 2-disc was pretty good, yet they haven't done squat for Bad Lieutenant. They mentioned going back and putting out a proper edition of Dario Argento's Sleepless, but again, nothing. The worst of it is, I still have lesser known Artisan discs that have such astounding gate jumping issues that I can't look at the movies without getting a headache... and I *know* they'll never re-issue those. Ugh.

About the Upcoming Godard set, I noticed that Les Caribiniers was in fact a Studio Canal property (as seen in the lower right hand corner of this box).

So its still possible that Les Caribiniers will be released in the Lionsgate box. I'm just confused as to why Optimum didn't release it in their Studio Canal box.

UPDATE:
And according to imdb, Canal+ does in fact own the rights to Nouvelle Vague as well. It seems as if Lionsgate could in fact be releasing 9 Godard films in box sets that don't call for any double dipping of Criterion releases (Breathless, Pierrot, Contempt, etc). Though -- knowing my luck -- my guess is both Carabiniers and Nouvelle Vague will be lost from the set.

I somehow doubt that it has. While I found it amusing at the time, my intuition tells me to avoid seeing it again. Even my appreciation of Oshima and Rampling are not enough to assuage my doubts.

Joe from Fin de cinema is reporting that Lionsgate is scheduled to release 6 more Bunuel films as double features on 4/29.

Titles in question:

El Gran Calavera
Los Olvidados
La Hija del engaño
La Ilusión viaja en tranvía
El Río y la muerte
Nazarin

These are also the same films that were released onto Mexican DVD (via Alter Films). Note the Los Olvidados, especially since the film was reportedly still in legal dispute with Koch Lorber. (According to someone at Koch Lorber as recently as last month!) I was also under the impression that Nazarin was Janus.
