In light of the sad news of Sven Nykvist's passing, I wanted to pass this on to Bergman fans -- that Swedish documentary about Bergman reviewed on DVD Beaver recently: the online retailer they posted does not ship to the United States, but this place does -- with surprisingly fast service. All I can say is that for Ingmar fans -- these documentaries are pure heaven!

the crucial question therefore becomes:

how many bergman interviews/documentaries does an art house aficionado need?

I must have at least 8-10 already.

One of the best Bergman-related documentaries is the recent "Schwestern im Leben" ("Sisters in Life"), shot in 2002 by director Wilfried Hauke. It discusses the friendship of Liv Ullman, Bibi Andersson and Ghita Nørby and the importance of Ingmar Bergman in/on their lives. Fantastic work, these women are very open and a joy to listen to.
I hope it gets released very soon, right now it's not even listed at imdb.com. :(

There is a great documentary on Sven Nykvist called "LIGHT KEEPS ME COMPANY" (2002) which is on dvd. I recommend it to everybody who has seen the movies he was involved with!
