Screen Captures (5-6 per post + links to additional images)

Link your screen captures here to show off the quality (or lack thereof) of certain international DVDs that are, preferably, not shown on other websites. For organization purposes I'd appreciate it if each post only contained images from one particular DVD, unless it's a comparison.
Unfortunately due to bandwidth limitations users will be unable to post images directly onto this site. I suggest using an image hosting site (such as Photo Bucket or Image Shack) and then linking to those images from here.
I'd also appreciate it if the number of images per post were kept down to a reasonable amount, so that the thread doesn't take too too long to load and become too horrendous to look at. If images become dead (the red X) I may delete the images or delete the post, so you have fair warning.

GOOD MAN!! I don't know if it was in PM or on a thread but I was only recently discussing with zedz or Dave Hare that this would be an incredible idea and a great supplement to the Beev. Excellent!

Three samples from the attractive new R2 PAL UK anamorphic edition of The Valachi Papers. Note that this is the Studio Canal edition, not the other recent UK release by Orbit Media, which has had very poor reviews on Amazon and IMDb.
Not sure if this 16:9 aspect ratio is correct, though. The reviews of the Sony R1 disc mention 1.85:1.
(Note to admin: feel free to delete if I've done this wrong!)

Here are four sets of screen captures (between the Panorama R3 HK and Shochiku R2 Japan) that show how washed out,
cropped, stretched, green tinted and painful the brilliant Shinoda Masahiro film (adapted from Kawabata)
With Beauty and Sorrow can be. Unfortunately, the only one of these with english subtitles is the Panorama,
but hopefully that will one day change, as this is one of my favorite Shinoda films, and deserves
better treatment and a larger audience (who couldn't be blamed for disliking the Panorama).
I'm posting these because I would hate for anyone, like me, to have been violently turned away from the film
while watching the Panorama because it's a completely different animal in it's correct state.
They're both NTSC and have the same running time, however the anamorphic Shochiku is dual layered
and averages about 8.0 MBps while the Panorama is single layered averaging about 5.7 MBps.
With this collection of captures I'll place the Shochiku first and the Panorama second. These captures
were taken on PowerDVD (the files are on a geocities account, and there may be limits on viewing, if this
becomes a problem I'll move them to another site).

Great progressive transfer. Additional commentary by Adrian Martin and the short Une Histoire d'Eau:
that transfer looks amazing, is there a link for any site that'll sell to Americans?

Hoorah!

Aarrgh!
Some enterprising English-language company (MOC, are you listening?) really needs to pick up this great film (in what looks like a great transfer) and subtitle it!

I'd just like to let it be known that I'm ok with caps containing nudity. Infact, I encourage it.

And the condition of the print and grain look about on a par with what we have presently (off the record) with Borzage's STREET ANGEL.

Bloody hell - I didn't even now there WAS such a disc! Eh? How did this escape everyone? Gorgeous transfer, too. I have a subbed VHS-to-DVD-R from Super Happy Fun and it looks pretty rough. This is a film that badly needs a USA/UK release. From what I can gather, no one owns the rights in the USA and UK. Perhaps, the global rights are owned by a sole entity. I recall Nick Wrigley mentioning that MoC tried to get it, but had problems finding good unsubbed elements, but those caps prove that a great pre-print elements exists. Heck, just get that mastertape and add subs and a Ginette Vincendeau intro or commentary and you're laughing!

The Magic Flute (Bergman)
French R2 (G.C.T.H.V.), available
here
Optional French subtitles only.
The captures have been chosen for comparison with the
Beaver review of the Criterion edition. The Criterion image is softer and has been slightly cropped on all sides. The French edition shows more grain but I'm not sure that it's more detailed. The colours seem wrong on both: too red on the Criterion, too green on the French.
