Rohmer's Four Seasons appears to be slated for 28 March 2005 (notice on DVDBeaver.com; advertised on amazon.co.uk).

Anyone has any particulars for this release?

I want to scream: I bought the Green Ray yesterday.

The Green Ray is the last film in the Comedies et Proverbes serie, and not part of Four seasons.

Thanks for the correction - of course the American title (Summer) had me confused. Hope the AE Four Seasons release does not get caught up in this company's habit of postponing & re-postponing.

The Green Ray is the 5th of 6 films in the Comedies and proverbs series, the last is L'Ami de mon amie (Boyfriends and Girlfriends).

Weekend is out now, anyone seen it? It'd have to be pretty awful to keep me from picking it up, but I'm not discounting that possibility.

I have it... It's not up to CC standards, but it's OK enough... A reasonable anamorphic transfer of a clean crisp print - no restoration - and a mono soundtrack... it's not going to appear in a better shape, anywhere else soon... For AE it's one of their better releases....

Well, it might not appear any better shape, since it will probably be PAL to NTSC, but New Yorker Films will apparently release Weekend in April in R1.

I'm probably going to pick up the R2 of Week End, though I was very, deeply impressed with New Yorker's work on "La Belle Noiseuse" (which to me looks better than the R2 from the DVD Beaver comparisons), but some of their other DVDs look considerably less impressive than numerous R2s. Though I think that's a consensus on this board.

Play.com lists "Pickpocket" now as a 2-DVD set.

Kiarostami's TASTE OF CHERRY coming from AE on 23rd May... Seems to be priced in slightly higher bracket and Amazon.co.uk lists it as 2 discs!... Maybe there'll be some significant extras...

I guess it's a direct port of the French Blaq Out disc (that was reviewed by DVD Beaver), as the French dvd had the Artificial Eye logo before the film when chosing the English menu. Also note taht the Pickpocket dvd looks to have the same features as the MK2 one.

AE have confirmed the docu on TASTE OF CHERRY disc #2 is TEN ON 10!... A surprising move...

Artificial Eye are finally advertising (in the latest NFT programme) their Andrei Tarkovsky Companion DVD, which we first hinted about in our February 6, 2003 news update. The title is slated for a "late Spring 2005" release. The release will include Chris Marker's One Day in the Life of Andrei Arsenevitch, Alexander Sokurov's Moscow Elegy, Tarkovsky's Tempo di Viaggio (with the corrected subtitles), and possibly another not-yet-confirmed title

AE's CE of Zatoichi seems to be the one to get, what is the cheapest/best etailer to use for a shipment to the US?

AE are probably trying to piggyback TASTE OF CHERRY release on this...

Abbas Kiarostami

Best known as Iran's leading film-maker, Kiarostami is also an installation artist, photographer and poet. As part of a London-wide season (including a film retrospective at the NFT), the Victoria and Albert museum will be showing Kiarostami's photographs from April 14, and two installations: Trees without Leaves (from May 3 to June 12) and Ta'ziyeh (from May 1 to 8).

BFI Modern Classics will publish Geoff Andrews' monograph on Kiarostami's '10' at the end of March, and April brings another English language book in Alberto Elena's 'The Cinema of Abbas Kiarostami: Iranian Filmmaker' from Saqi Books...

That V&A exhibition is great news. I just received the May program for the NFT, including a special very nicely designed 34 pages booklet titled Abbas Kiarostami: Visions of the Artists.

Anyone confirm this? I saw on imdb.com a rumor that Eustache's THE MOTHER AND THE WHORE is being planned for release by Artificial Eye.

My local "arty" rental location is doing some serious renovations (actually, I think they're also building a Liquor Mart beside it since my city is so darn classy) so my regular method of renting films has dried up a bit. So I decided to finally buy some non-R1 DVDs to add to my collection. I was going to purchase AE's The Piano Teacher DVD from Amazon UK, but it doesn't seem to actually exist. Anyone have any info/details as to why it's listed on AE's website, but I can't seem to actually find it for purchase anywhere?
