It does make sense with his ensemble cast; presumably not needing to necessarily get everyone together at the same time to film together would mean he could get even more of the staples than he managed in Budapest. Plus it'd give us an oppurtunity to see some of the other members of the Anderson ensemble gain status as the lead, albeit only for a quarter-hour or so each; Goldblum, Huston, and Dafoe are practically begging for a chance to stand in the spotlight on their own.

Apparently this is a real thing. According to a Scott Foundas tweet, Anderson sent Bob Balaban in his stead to pick up Grand Budapest's best screenplay prize at tonight's New York Film Critics' Circle Awards. Balaban said, "Wes is in Europe prepping a stop-motion feature that may or may not be inspired by Vittorio De Sica."

Anderson's next project is a stop-motion film about dogs, apparently unrelated to the anthology film inspired by De Sica he had been teasing. It looks to be getting underway in the U.K. soon, with ads for production assistants and production secretaries posted a couple of weeks ago.

Wonder if it's connected to Flawed Dogs, the Berkeley Breathed YA novel that Baumbach and Gerwig were adapting at one point

In a shocking twist, Bill Murray will also be voicing a dog in this film. Murray says that the film is "Japanese inspired."

Wait until he finds out he's signed on to voice a surfing dog in Paul W.S. Anderson's next movie instead.

That will probably be watchable, it will be the non-Paul W.S. Anderson directed stream of sequels to the first surfing dog movie that will test the patience!

I'm wondering whether 'dogs plus Japan' means it will be another Hachiko adaptation? (Very much the Greyfriar's Bobby of Japan!).

I wonder (lotta wondering going on) if he'll shoot a live action film in the interim between now and this one getting completed the way he did with The Darjeeling Limited while Fantastic Mr. Fox was being animated.

I thought all that was done after Darjeeling? I know that Fox was set up for awhile at Revolution Studios, but then they folded leaving the project without a home.

Shooting is underway on this, expected in late 2017 or much more likely 2018, Alexandre Desplat will score it

According to a charming little video from Anderson, the film is called Isle of Dogs, will star the aforementioned actors plus Tilda Swinton, Greta Gerwig, Scarlett Johansson, Courtney B. Vance, Liev Schreiber, Harvey Keitel, F. Murray Abraham, Frances McDormand, and Yoko Ono(!!!), plus a number of other Japanese actors (I guess Murray wasn't off-base in his description of it).

Well,there are several islands of cats in Japan and at least one island of bunnies (as well a village of foxes), but no island of dogs -- though there is an island CALLED Inujima (meaning dog island -- but named after a rock formation).

Looks like this will be his first fully widescreen picture since Darjeeling.

Maybe it is alluding to the action all taking place in the East End of London?

Yeah, the presence of Yoko Ono in the cast has me most intrigued.

Cool poster; slightly different look than Foxey, still another spring release, those have been good to Wes.

I hope Edward Norton has improved his voice acting since the Simpsons

A few new actors joining the Anderson fold. Sad to see Jason Schwartzman and Owen Wilson not on the list, but maybe this means some expansion for the future films.

Clearly Wes Anderson has no interest in me changing my avatar any time soon.

Is it safe to assume that part of the film will be subtitled? Googling some of the Japanese actors lead me to believe they don't speak English.
