Bridget Fonda (
Jackie Brown, A Simple Plan) and Jennifer Jason Leigh (
The Hitcher, The Hateful Eight) star in Barbet Schroeder’s (
Reversal of Fortune, Mad Men) erotic psychological thriller
Single White Female.
When Allie (Fonda) breaks off her engagement, she is delighted to find a supportive new roommate in Hedy (Leigh). But when Hedy's behaviour becomes increasingly obsessive, and a series of violent events begin to occur, Allie fears that Hedy is not all she claims to be.
Beautifully photographed by Luciano Tovoli (
The Passenger, Suspiria), and with a powerful score by Howard Shore (
The Silence of the Lambs, Videodrome),
Single White Female is one of the most stylish suspense thrillers of the nineties.

I love this movie, but almost all of these extras were on Shout Factory's Blu-ray, so this is unfortunately a pass

It's OK, I'll pick up domino's slack on this one as I had not picked this up before now, and mainly want to do so because its one of the trifecta of erotically charged thrillers from that time that featured the music of Enigma on its soundtrack! (The big one being Sliver of course, which has songs written especially for the film, but as with Single White Female, Boxing Helena also used Sadeness Part 1)

Jay Harangue (the master of recapping TV movies in a manner reminiscent of overhearing someone gossiping into their mobile phone behind you on the bus) has pointed out that Lifetime recently did a remake of this film with
Single Black Female! And there was apparently a sequel!

This was great fun to revisit after nearly 30 years. Forgotten just how violent the film was, not to mention lots of casual nudity - they certainly don't make them like this anymore. Fonda & Leigh rock in it.

Per the latest Indicator newsletter, the limited edition is very close to selling out.
There will of course be a standard edition, but without the booklet - and I personally thought that Georgia Humphreys' essay was outstandingly good.

Thanks for the recommendation - I decided not to wait for the standard edition.
