A review for Tsai's new feature "Days" has been posted

I can't wait to see it. Hoping for a U.S. blu-ray release at least.

Fantastic news. I'm glad it's getting released by Grasshopper. There aren't enough of Tsai's films available on blu-ray. His first 3 features are begging for a stateside release. I already have the Taiwanese box set, but it wasn't cheap and there's not enough of them to go around.

Looking forward to this one I would love for a company like Grasshopper to acquire more Tsai. I'm still waiting for someone to release my favorite film of the 2000s (Goodbye, Dragon Inn).

I was watching Tsai Ming-liang's documentary Afternoon (now streaming on Projectr), and I emailed Projectr/Grasshopper to see if they would be including it on the eventual Blu-ray of Days. They said:
In terms of DAYS, we'd like to include AFTERNOON on the disc, but not yet certain if it will be possible.

Out of curiosity, did Grasshopper ever give Days a streaming release? I saw it when it played at the NYFF back in October, but neither IMDB nor Grasshopper's website shows that the movie was ever actually given a run in the US.

No; theatrical release is 13 August.

Similar to the comment I just made in the Licorice Pizza thread, I see Days as Tsai attempting to put the style of his Walker series into a narrative form. His solution returns to structure of What Time is it There?, crosscutting between different main characters using scenes that mostly consist of them spending time alone. Days struck me as a minor Tsai, its blocking flatter than usual and its simple narrative feeling a bit too tidy, but his sense of rhythm, color, and composition are so full of basic pleasure that the whole thing was a breath of fresh air regardless. Its long climax is unforgettable, reaching the immersion and distorted sense of time of his best work.

Got an email (in my spam folder) that Grasshopper has already shipped this out to me, but that the slipcover will be shipping separately

I got this email too. Either they ran out or the slipcover got delayed and they didn't want to delay the whole release.

It had already been pushed back a week.
(Not at all complaining.)
