The bastard already has his next project ready to shoot at the end of the month; a basketball drama starring Andre Holland and written by Moonlight's Tarell Alvin McCraney

It's another smart move: small budget, marketable topic, built-in Good will for star and writer from Moonlight. God bless this man

This is already shooting (on an iPhone, of course), and Atlanta's Zazie Beetz is starring in it as well.

I can barely edit a 20-minute YouTube video in 2 hours time. How the hell is he doing a whole movie? The man’s a wizard.

I imagine he was assembling the dailies into their part of a rough cut each night as they were filmed - so it was just a matter of putting the pieces together, with the work to come being the refining.

Yeah, Soderbergh has mentioned how he likes that digital lets him edit at home the day of filming. But still.

He's been doing this since Che where he would take the day's footage to wherever he was staying and plug the USB into a PC and edit it there. This is far, far more impressive.

Just the time from us finding out about the film being scheduled to shoot to it being completed is wild, especially since it seems like the material is more ambitious from a logistical perspective than Unsane (assuming it being described as a basketball drama isn't somewhat misleading, that is)

If i recall correctly he said he did it on the drive back from the filming location to the hotel.

That's even more remarkable. I mean not all of Che was in the jungle but I mean jeeeeez.

It's actually really inspiring to him do things like this because it's proof positive that you can do a lot of things on a very low budget and do it quickly.

I'm fairly certain I remember reading that this was how all two seasons of THE KNICK were edited as well, which, itself, was already impressive in the way that it was shot - not episode by episode, but by treating each season like one ten hour movie. This means that any given location could potentially have scenes being filmed from the entirety of the season, not just a single episode, which must have been a logistical nightmare to plan with costuming, actors and continuity, but really efficient on the day of the shoot.

That article also stated that shooting for the show usually finished at a reasonable hour each day and that, after he finished his footage assembly on the way home from set, he and his wife would go out and do normal couple things like have dinner, go to the opera, see friends. Then he would go home and absorb more media to learn from and become inspired for the next day’s shoot.

The man truly is incredible.

It has to be. Movie titles are in bold, tv shows just in caps.

Obviously, a grain of salt may be needed here, but Wikipedia is saying that Kyle MacLachlan is in this too.

the CBS murder-mystery "news" show?? that makes me feel a certain kinship w/ Soderbergh, since I always end up watching this garbage when it's on when I lazily turn on the TV— even when I initially had no intention of doing so.

It's true. He was on Kathie Lee & Hoda last week and spoke a little about the filming.
