Web Resources
Not to leave this section brief, but Cigarettes & Red Vines is absolutely the definitive hub for pretty much any Anderson interviews, articles, and essays that are out there, in print and on the web. They've even got transcriptions of video interviews. It's rare that a director will have such a reliable online archive, but this independently maintained PTA one is worth being the one direct link you'd ever need for Anderson's work and media appearances.

Cool because my Wholphin runs out with the next issue, glad something worthwhile happens within my scope

Hello all:

This is my first attempt at a thread split/move, and I ended up losing the replies in the very brief Paul Thomas Anderson thread from the New Films subforum. My apologies! I already know what I did wrong (trying to just move posts into a new thread instead of splitting the entire thread to the other subforum) so it won't happen again.

Just so I can hopefully continue the conversation that was going on in that thread, here's a link to Grantland's Paul Thomas Anderson Week posts, and a direct link to their exhaustive Boogie Nights retrospective, "Livin' Thing."

Great visual essay on the camera movements Anderson uses (does not include Inherent Vice, obviously.)

Aside from some grey stubble, he certainly doesn't look bad for someone in their early forties.

He's on tomorrow's WTF with Marc Maron.

I'm really looking forward to where Anderson is going next. Last three films are from different periods (late 19th/early 20th century, 40s/50s and the seventies). I wonder if that's intentional or it was just coincidence of source material. Needless to say his decisions have produced brilliance.

This is the Rolling Stone article Anderson references in his interview today when talking about what inspired Boogie Nights.

Well, I know where I'll be this summer: at the Boston Independent Film Fest last night it was announced that the Somerville Theater here in Somerville, MA, will be screening the complete works of PTA in 35mm (with The Master in 70mm). Details and dates have not yet been posted on their website.

Is that payback for not casting Downey Jr in Inherent Vice.

Perhaps Anderson wants to emulate Altman once again and make his Popeye.

Ugh, didn't Begnini already make this man-child Pinnochio crap? At least he has the excuse of being Italian..and a man-child.

But Downey would play Geppetto while Begnini played Pinocchio. Not sure how that makes this man-child crap.

Documentary directed by Anderson entitled Junun to premiere at NYFF

More details have emerged. It's 54 minutes long. From the NYFF website:
Junun
Paul Thomas Anderson, USA, 2015, DCP, 54m
English, Hindu, Hebrew, and Urdu with English subtitles

Earlier this year, Paul Thomas Anderson joined his close friend and collaborator Jonny Greenwood on a trip to Rajasthan in northwest India, where they were hosted by the Maharaja of Jodhpur, and he brought his camera with him. Their destination was the 15th-century Mehrangarh Fort, where Greenwood (with the help of Radiohead engineer Nigel Godrich) was recording an album with Israeli composer Shye Ben Tzur and an amazing group of musicians: Aamir Bhiyani, Soheb Bhiyani, Ajaj Damami, Sabir Damami, Hazmat, and Bhanwaru Khan on brass; Ehtisham Khan Ajmeri, Nihal Khan, Nathu Lal Solanki, Narsi Lal Solanki, and Chugge Khan on percussion; Zaki Ali Qawwal, Zakir Ali Qawwal, Afshana Khan, Razia Sultan, Gufran Ali, and Shazib Ali on vocals; and Dara Khan and Asin Khan on strings. The finished film, just under an hour, is pure magic. Junun lives and breathes music, music-making, and the close camaraderie of artistic collaboration. It’s a lovely impressionistic mosaic and a one-of-a-kind sonic experience: the music will blow your mind.

Interesting that some of it's being done in digital, I'm guessing done to get more footage.

Mubi have grabbed the rights to stream it the day after its NYFF premiere, Oct 7th. Not quite sure whether this means it will only be available for the usual 30 day period or not.

Is there any chance of this being released in some other fashion? $5 for a one time rental (I seriously do not see myself using Mubi for anything else) is more then a bit absurd especially for a short.
