Couldn’t see this on the forum so I thought I’d flag up this fabulous UK label that specialises in some fascinating independently minded modern documentaries.
As an early recommendation, I strongly recommend Sound it Out, a splendid documentary on the last vinyl specialist record shop in Teesside, North East England. A moving and quite marvelous look at the staying power of this format and a revealing look at the male psyche.

I've been meaning to explore some of their documentaries for a while, but haven't gotten around to it yet. It's also worth noting that their release of Claudia Llosa's The Milk of Sorrow is also excellent with a superb presentation and comes with a second disc featuring her debut, Madeinusa, which far surpasses the Film Movement release. My only quibble is that it comes in a cardboard case with cut-out slots to slip the dvd's into, which I can't say I'm a big fan of. It's currently £6.59 on Amazon which is IMHO a steal for two great films.

The 100% recyclable cardboard case is a feature of all their recent releases it seems (definitely for Tabloid, Bobby Fischer Vs The World, The Interrupters, Dreams of a Life and The Shock Doctrine, which I have picked up so far).

I wanted to bump this publisher since they have some absolutely terrific documentaries coming soon, especially for those locked into region b/2. Since last posting on the forum, Dogwoof has moved into Blu territory releasing with their first title (Chasing Ice) in a keep case.

As with Second Run, I'm often blind buying Dogwoof titles on day 1 and have never been dissappointed in their release judgment or production values.

Contrary to the rear cover, "Mistaken For Strangers" is region free, NTSC by the way.

"Nas: Time Is Illmatic" is coming out on a BD/DVD combo steelbook, a first for Dogwoof on November 24th.

The National: Mistaken For Strangers is getting released in Germany on blu-ray. I don't know if that's going to be much of an improvement considering the quality of cameras they used in making the film.

Can anybody give some details on their Joshua Oppenheimer box? I can't find any information on the set itself, or on their disc of The Look of Silence, even on their website.

An essential set, especially at the current prices I've seen it at. I actually bought both separately, since they're obviously two of the best films of the last decade, and I believe the set is no different - just the two separate releases in one box (probably just a thin card slipbox).

Unless the Act of Killing disc features seamless branching, it will be vastly inferior to the US 2-disc edition.

It's already inferior with the fact that it only has lossy Dolby Digital audio and in a 50hz transfer.

One can safely assume that I'm well behind the curve on this one, but I've recently come to the realization very quickly that I need to be paying more attention to this label. I discovered less than a month after plunking down for the U.S. DVD-only release of Lo & Behold: Reveries of the Connected World from Magnolia that Dogwoof released the same film in the U.K. on Blu-ray. Then just yesterday I happened across the information that their Blu-ray of the Iggy Pop / Jim Jarmusch documentary Gimme Danger is already out, when if I'd been a little more sluggish about learning that I would have gotten the DVD-only U.S. release that comes out next week.

Unfortunately, The Act Of Killing (and iirc The Look Of Silence too) are bitstarved on the Dogwoof releases due to using 20 GB discs. The Drafthouse BDs are unquestionably superior; the Dogwoof release of The Act Of Killing even has visible macroblocking across nighttime shots that can't be from the DV source because it's not present on the Drafthouse BD. The Dogwoof release has one extra "masterclass" interview that is not present on the Drafthouse release however that is a decent exclusive extra.
