How did L'Intrus crack the top 20? That is a miracle of a decade of list-making.

Eternal Sunshine beating any film in the top 100, other than maybe
Children of Men, is a mystery to me.
And no Tom Tykwer, not even in the Also rans?

I wonder how many people actually voted In the Mood as their number 1.
Perhaps if zedz isn't floating face down in the deep end with a purple patch ebbing from his nether regions he could let us know.
Maybe the Lynch vote was split and undercut by the haters whilst ITM was a firm top ten favourite that coasted in on a general top tennish consensus?
Even though it figured in my top half (L'Intrus was my No 1) I just don't see it as film of the Decade.
Democracy. Who needs it?

The White Ribbon would probably be ranked higher if more people saw it. It's still making its theatrical run. Great thing that I caught the film on the day of the deadline and turned in my list just in time with The White Ribbon ranked in my top 5.

Am I the only one who didn't vote for ITMFL at all?

I didn't either, which may or may not have to do with the fact that I haven't seen it yet.

Nor did I. It's a film that I like (mostly for its look), but I'm afraid its deeper charms are lost on me.

Nice to see someone else voted for these. I thought
Auto Focus would be forgotten about, so I'm glad someone other than myself squeezed it in. I just couldn't find a spot in my Top 50 for the other two.

Do yourself a favor. Valentine's Day is a few skips away. Watch
ITML and
Bright Star - the most romantic films made in the past decade or two or maybe ever.

Uh ... I would actually recommend not doing that. That's kind of setting yourself up for disappointment if
ITMFL turns out not to be the greatest romantic film you have ever watched. I would just recommend getting to it when you actually feel like it, rather than when you feel you
have to watch it. It's not a case of "don't believe the hype", so much as a case of "figure out how to ignore the hype".
Also, looking at the list now, I'm a bit surprised that
Brand Upon the Brain! beat
My Winnipeg. (Snark in 3, 2, 1 ...)

I don't think it made my final list either. Then again, while I find WKW's work interesting, it has never inspired that much "love" -- I prefer the work of Ann Hui and Johnnie To (at his best).

I had a feeling that revelation wouldn't rest well with you, Michael! Both are at the top of the queue
Although, I've yet to see any movie more romantic than my number 1,
Punch-Drunk Love.
Andre, why do you consider
My Winnipeg a better film than
Brand Upon the Brain? The latter made it pretty high on my list; the former, far from it.

I don't understand what you're talking about hype and all. Are you saying that
ITMFL is over-hyped? It remains #1 of 2000s with this forum as the previous cycle proves. I did not vote it as #1 but its top position is greatly deserved. I still think those who haven't seen the film needs a push to see it at least once. Same thing with
Bright Star which seems to be slipping past too many radars during this ongoing award season.
I was just encouraging LQ to check out
ITMFL (and
Bright Star) as much as most of you here have been encouraging me to check out undiscovered gems since I joined this forum. Sometimes we all need a push.

Maybe we need a thread called "Why won't they choose the films I like for the Lists Project?" (My unwarranted snarkiness surely has nothing to do with the fact that In the Mood for Love was my top choice.)

ITMFL didn't make mine either. As much as I love Wong's 90s films, his 2000 output seems to me a desperate attempt to reclaim his once vibrant loveliness.
Half my list made the final, although next time I'll do some serious revisions since reviewing my list I think my rankings aren't completely reflective of my taste.

Some voting notes for the top three:
In the Mood for Love featured on 32 lists, 20 of those in the top ten, topping six lists and coming in second on four.
Mulholland Dr. was no underdog, so talk of 'haters' is pretty ridiculous. It featured on 36 lists and 18 top tens. Three number ones and six number twos.
Yi Yi featured on 30 lists. Thirteen top ten mentions, six at number one, one at number two. This was my number one (being as it's the best film of the decade and all). The other two didn't make my list, but I like them well enough.
As for L'Intrus making the top twenty: it was in the top five for a while, but its support dried up considerably in the second half of the vote (which was in general much more anglo-centric, as tends to be the case).
EDIT: Oh, and re. Auto Focus - I was surprised by its level of support too. It scored higher than any Scorsese film from the decade!

DIRECTORS OF THE DECADE:
The following directors accumulated more than 1000 votes:
David Lynch (2 films) 1928
Michael Haneke (6 films - yep, somebody voted for Funny Games!) 1773
Wong Kar-Wai (3 films - nope, nobody voted for My Blueberry Nights) 1686
P.T. Anderson (2 films) 1595
Wes Anderson (4 films) 1399
Tsai Ming-liang (5 films) 1388
Claire Denis (5 films) 1331
Jia Zhangke (4 films) 1178
Lars Von Trier (5 films) 1094
Gus Van Sant (5 films) 1077
Edward Tang (1 film) 1049
The Coen Brothers (4 films - you know which four) 1033
And two mea culpas: Bubble should have been on the Exiled list and 2 Days in Paris on the Angry Inches.

Hm, I didn't participate, so I should probably just shut up, but this strikes me mostly as a selection of strained seriousness mixed with a heavy dose of artistic pretense. Where are e.g. Almodovar, Eastwood, Ang Lee, Scorsese? And since when is Claire Denis considered to be a major film maker?

I think you know the answer to that query, at least until zedz installs my idea of being able to subtract points from the total
