Terrific film. I thought Twilight Time would pick it up. I hope we get a commentary from its producer Mike Kaplan, who worked frequently with
Lindsay Anderson. Notable not just for excellent performances from Gish and Bette Davis, but a really terrific Vincent Price as well.

MisterLime just posted about toning down the yellow tinting on their release of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, with six screengrab examples.

It's nice they toned down the yellow, but the balance still looks off - it now looks to teal, like they only fiddled with one narrow section of the color spectrum. Oy, whatever, one guy on the Home Theater Forum compared MGM's BD of the 4k restoration to a vintage 35mm print and actually vouched for the yellowness (something even he didn't expect to do), so I'll just hold on to that BD.

FWIW, here's the post (from "Bruce" aka haineshisway):
Not only did they have an Italian IB Tech print as a reference (and Technicolor does not fade if that's what you mean by "degraded") - the assistant cameraman on the film (or the camera operator) was involved in the color timing. Additionally, I had my old 35mm IB print run for me so I could compare it to the new transfer and my thoughts are right here for all to read.

Thanks Costa. It's hard to tell really, based on those stills, but I'd agree it still doesn't look 'right' (whatever that is? - either one looks too much like digital colour timing - though I think the split comparison only enhances the colour saturation of the "before" and "after", making them fairly useless as examples).

As a compromise Kino should release a split screen edition with yellow on the left and blue on the right.

It's hard for me to tell on those screengrabs when they are split like that, but the right side of that first still is defintely more true to the 35mm print I saw just over a year ago. Unfortunately, the split image like that makes it a little hard to notice.
