Per MoC Twitter, this will get both BD and DVD releases in March.

Not a fan of the pink/purple packaging...

The Le Amiche is gorgeous though.

Sorry to ignore the very exciting announcement directly above this post, but.... I wonder if the titling of the Mizoguchi boxset "Late Mizoguchi' could be hinting at some more releases in the future?

I think it's just following Criterion titling style i guess. But, if this sell well i don't see any reason for MoC not to release more.

I'm not even a fan of Antonioni and that cover nearly makes it a must purchase.

When did the packaging change?? The MoC site now shows the two new BDs as being dual format releases with packaging like the BFI releases. This is very disappointing. Maybe I'm far too anal, but I don't want DVDs and I want uniformity in the packaging of my MoC collection. I specifically passed on the Metropolis steelbook for both of these reasons. Are these releases in DVD keep cases? They look bigger.

I really liked that MoC had essentially decided to leave DVD behind, but now with all the re-releases and these dual format versions, it seems like they are going backwards.

Seriously, how could anyone who is a fan of the type of cinema that MoC releases NOT be interested in getting into Blu-ray? We're not talking about about casual movie watchers here.

The dual format cases are identical to the blu-ray ones except for the colour. I just hope that MoC won't charge us more for selling both formats in one package.

You might want to read this thread for a little background and rationale for the change.

It changed a few days ago. And I agree: the dvd`s could`ve been left out. I understand where MoC is coming from in their decision but I would rather have the blu-ray only releases

Nobody should moan about the inclusion of the DVD, unless they raise their prices.

No one on this board pays anything near list price for MoCs as it is, so spare us the price increase doomsaying

BFI even dropped their prices, so forcing you to pay more is unreasonable (especially for those who just want the DVD).

BTW, what about spine numbers with dual-format editions?
I wouldn't mind if MoC drop spine numbers altogether (or for DVD at least. Now it's a good time - 100 DVD's).

Logic would indicate that dual-format releases will follow the Blu line spine numbers, while DVD-only titles would continue the regular DVD line.

The Dual Format editions will follow the BD spine numbers. We're treating them as "a BD with a free DVD", hence the foregrounding of "Blu-ray" on the silver sticker.

DVD spine numbers will continue only for DVD-only releases (of which there will be a few more. New titles released later this year on DVD only.)

The pricepoint for the Dual Format editions will remain the same as the current pricepoint for Blu-rays (which is £22.99). We've experimented with £24.99 (SUNRISE, FOR ALL MANKIND, M, etc) and with £19.99 (PROFOUND DESIRES) with previous Blu-rays and have now settled on £22.99, for numerous reasons.

This *may* come down in a year or two, but for the next year at least, we're focussing on £22.99.
