We're going to announce DVD #100 in a month. It will be out in November.

Although it would be ultra-neat if this release were our last DVD spine number (the new METROPOLIS DVD will be #8 after all), there are probably going to be at least another three coming down the turnpike in the next year.

Finch wrote:edit: forgot to ask: any chance you could follow BFI's example with their Ozu Blu's and use transparent keepcases?
The BFI's transparent cases appear to signify Dual-Format releases, and are used by other Dual-Format releases I've seen. Wouldn't want to confuse folk at the moment.

Getting rid of the stupid waste of space at the top would be our main priority, as well as losing the blue, but one without the other isn't really worth us doing.

Criterion have the best BD boxes, no waste of space at the top, and no blue --- but they were custom-made.

How about ordering a few tens of thousands of the Criterion 2.50 Blu replacement cases then?

Either that or put a film-still decorated pencil in the dead zone top of the Blue Blu cases.

Currently both on track for September releases... so long as our early August shoot in LA goes okay. We're cutting it really fine though.

Not sure about regions yet. Wish we didn't have to worry about them and everyone had multiregion capability.

Does that mean that all your DVDs will slowly go OOP?

I think Nick said DVDs'd only go out of print if they were to upgrade the title to blu.

The company producing the cases sell them from 10,000 cases and up, so he could order them much cheaper at the factory. I gues it would be down to something like $0.20 per case. I know because I wanted to buy 100 directly and when the sales representative called me he was rather disappointed, but polite, when he realized the small quantity I was looking for.

The company producing the cases can supply them in the USA, but not in the UK. They'd have to be shipped over from the USA. It's not cost effective to purchase so many empty cases and store them for years.

We know the film isn't all smiles and we're not that bothered about "misrepresenting" it -- we think it's funny/sad to present it like this - especially since Criterion nailed the sleeve already.
Yep, I love Seth, and he did a great job for Criterion.

Having said that, I love this striking new cover too!

I have never even heard of this film before, but will doubtless check it out on MoC blu.

Yeah, it makes sense.

I guess I'll hurry and buy the DVDs I want before they go OOP.

I love the Rock Hunter art. I can't think of a better case for using original art as Tony's face keeps cracking me up.

How many of the releases still have the ultra thick spine? I believe I had they were being phased out, but on the older releases I haven't seen any proof of that.

Only EDVARD MUNCH and TABU still have the fat spine.

SANSHO DAYU, KWAIDAN, and NOSFERATU quickly reverted to normal after about a year on release.

I guess I'm in the clear now then, thanks. Wish the postman didn't sit(or whatever it is post people do) on Munch though. One of the tabs keeping the booklet in place were squished off.

...and that's why we ditched the fat spines. Those cases were incredibly brittle. Email [email protected] - he might have a spare fat spined case for your broken Munch?

I like that cover. Good to see Ophuls in the collection as well.

Wait. Does this mean MoC is eventually going to blu only?

This makes me incredibly sad.

Since February of this year, MoC has been Blu-only on titles that have the materials for it and DVD-only on the others. Big titles like Metropolis and M are the only ones that receive releases on both formats.

Is the Metropolis steelbook going to be Blu-ray height or DVD height?

This might sound like a stupid question, but I do not own any blu-ray's.
I ordered the steelbook edition, and as I understand it will have blu-ray size case. Does that mean that the booklet is smaller? 8-[

The booklet will be blu ray sized. I don't remember if they just use smaller print or make more pages though.
